Article Split

edit

Right now the information about Jefferson's ongoing legal woes heavily outweighs the rest of this article. I was wondering if perhaps we can create a seperate article about Jefferson and his family's legal problems instead of flooding the article on the man with it, as done with other indicted politcians, like Tom DeLay, especially as his trial begins tomorrow. Another article should be created called Jefferson Crime Family. SarahJaneSmith (talk) 22:37, 8 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I love you, SarahJaneSmith, but we can't have an article titled Jefferson Crime Family. That's sensationalism and can hardly be aligned with NPOV (unless and until they're convicted). But on the substance, yes, it looks increasingly enticing to consolidate all the legal entanglements into another article or articles. Although the defendants are related, one needs to bear in mind that only William J. Jefferson is charged in the Virginia case, that only Mose Jefferson is charged in the Louisiana bribery case, and that Mose is additionally charged in the racketeering case along with Betty Jefferson, Angela Coleman, and Renée Gill Pratt. Yes, SarahJaneSmith, see Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. Whatever ones' personal opinions, please stick to "just the facts" in articles. The capitalization implies a proper name, and the suggested title suggests that this is the inherent purpose of the family. Not NPOV. -- Infrogmation (talk) 00:15, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
What do you all think of creating another article on the investigation and now trial of William Jefferson? Also, since there are these family issues, why don't we just create a page on his family? It can just be called Jefferson Political Dynasty (Louisiana)? I also think the entire mess with the Jefferson pages and the ones related to the Head and Nagin issues needs to be cleaned up. I just wish I was retired so I could get it done. Rockules318 (talk) 13:16, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Right on, Rockules, but it would take a bevy of retired people with editing skill to get reins on all the "issues" in NOLA these days. I've been in 47 states and 31 countries (lived in three of them) and have even been to a couple of goat ropings, but I still feel privileged to live down here in the swamps of Louisiana. When it comes to politics, most other places are boring. Rammer (talk) 04:05, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, of all of the places I have done politics, Louisiana has been the most interesting. Rockules318 (talk) 15:30, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

This would be a good model for an all-encompassing article on the Jefferson family and the current New Orleans City Council affairs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_political_corruption_probe —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rockules318 (talkcontribs) 16:24, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

why would jefferson get prison for his non violent offenses?

edit

wondering if the article can be more clear why jefferson is facing a long prison time when he was never seen as physically dangerous or as a repeat offender? the existence of other possible sentences for jefferson justifies the discussion here i think.98.154.255.43 (talk) 10:56, 11 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Reference for electoral history

edit

When I was looking into the disambiguation of Roger Johnson, I came across the following reference, which I used to cite the electoral results of that election:

Calhoun, Milburn; McGovern, Bernie (2008). Louisiana Almanac 2008-2009. Pelican Publishing. p. 507. ISBN 9781455607709.

The section "Electoral history" was unreferenced until I added this; I suspect that, if someone wants to take the time, this book will serve as a reference for all of these electoral results. TJRC (talk) 01:07, 4 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Mislinking

edit

As an aside, this section wikilinks most of Jefferson's opponents, but as a rule, these unsuccessful candidates are not sufficiently notable for an Wikipedia article, and should probably be unlinked (at least one, Jon Johnson, is a mislink to an unrelated article). I've now addressed this. TJRC (talk) 01:18, 4 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
