Also I think you should take a look at this; it talks about a possible third father Kaaua, and the concept of lesser chiefs and kahus in service of their sisters and brothers of higher rank; Moehonua was kahu of his half-sister.

more confusing, sigh. Will never know for sure without DNA tests.

Take a look at the source given. I could not totally follow; not a lawyer, so words like "demurrer" confuse me. He did accuse Moehonua of faking a deed, which might be worth mentioning. So perhaps Kalakaua thought it should revert to the King as royalty, not as a blodd relative. I thought Kalakaua did not think he was his uncle, at least Lili'uokalani never mentions it. I think they assumed it was a "step" relationship.

I can't read any of those Hawaiian land cases either.

and by the way, the question mark on the third wife was because I could ot find that one in the official marriage records. But the Linnekin book lists it, which might be a tad more reliable than "rootsweb" which has many mistakes (and sometimes is based on Wikipedia!).

You already had a book source for it. Did you even read the sources you used? Hawaiian genealogies mentioned she survived him to grief for him. Actually most of rootsweb are not based on Wikipedia because they existed prior to many of these articles, but they are riddle with mistakes anyhow just like royal ark.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 04:42, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I try to read them when adding to the article but do not have them memorized. That is what computers are for. It looks like rootsweb probably got its info from the newspaper translation, although that is not totally accurate, the state archive is not always complete either.

Not me; there are too many multiple meanings for me to understand. Something about Aikanaka sleeping at the bottom of a cliff right before he was born? "Moe" does mean sleep, but "Honua" can mean many things. something like "sleeping out in the countryside". Odd if Aikanaka was not his father, but I suppose was his chief and caretaker (sort of step father at least). I was most concerned with his political career, where there are reliable sources.
