Statue
editIn October 2006, Aston Villa FC and the Aston Villa Supporters' Trust [1] have agreed, as part of the wider project to enhance the area around Villa Park, to honour William McGregor with the erection of a statue. The Supporters' Trust will now begin fund raising with donations now accepted.
Incorrect claim about first football league in the world
editThe article tells us that The Football League was the "the first organised football league in the world." Being founded in 1888, that's a bit problematic. It may have been the first Association football or soccer league, but Australian football had several leagues operating before that. The Victorian Football Association was founded in 1877. If you insist on it being called a league, the West Australian Football League was founded in 1885. OK, we're talking about different sports, but the name is the same, and it makes the literal reading of that claim wrong.
(This all comes from the article being today's Featured article. I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. Can we correct to claim to just Association football?HiLo48 (talk) 07:04, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Minor ambiguity
editI found one sentence here mildly ambiguous: "[E]ach club was permitted only to pay players who had been born or lived for at least two years within six miles of its home stadium." Does that mean that clubs had the latitude to pay only local players (but could have paid others too if they wished), or that they were only allowed to pay the local players? (I'd assume the latter, but it's a shade unclear.) Trifling point, but mildly interesting :) Gonzonoir (talk) 08:19, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
McGregor died in 1912, not 1911. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.211.31.245 (talk) 21:56, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

McGregor Statue Photograph
editA purely aesthetic request here: would it be possible to upload a more fitting photo of the McGregor Statue? The official Villa site has some great photos and there are many more photos on the web that seem to capture the statue from a more flattering (i.e. no ugly metal shutters in the background) angle. Many thanks if anyone can do this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.147.141.227 (talk) 15:58, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- Unless the photos are copyright-free (which the ones on the Villa site certainly aren't, for starters) then they can't be used on Wikipedia....... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 21:29, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- If only this had been requested a few days ago, I could have taken one before the Community Shield :/ Oldelpaso (talk) 21:35, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
