hiyA I'm changing the first line from this: "Major Sir William Newenham Montague Orpen, KBE (27 November 1878 - 29 September 1931) was an Irish-born British portrait painter." to this: "Major Sir William Newenham Montague Orpen, KBE (27 November 1878 - 29 September 1931) was an Irish portrait painter." Since I cannot understand how someone can be an Irish-born British person. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.69.198.243 (talk) 07:58, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Until 1922, the whole of Ireland was represented at Westminster. Valetude (talk) 15:52, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
The previous phrasing, while perhaps not worded ideally, was likely meant to convey the fact that Orpen was a member of the Anglo-Irish ruling class rather than an ethnic Irishman. 2604:3D09:6780:470:68B5:D210:E3A:23E1 (talk) 22:00, 24 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hey all, I've just uploaded a collection of high-resolution paintings by Orpen from the National Portrait Gallery, London and was letting you know in case you thought some of them might be useful. One particularly remarkable one is a self-portrait by Orpen, first image below. Dcoetzee 07:25, 30 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's probably not ideal to include them all on a talk page. We already have a link to his category on Wikicommons where users can find all of the available pictures.14GTR (talk) 07:01, 2 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
