Notability
editLike "Frigidaire", the brand Williamine has become a generic name for the pear "eau de vie" from the Williams pear. It has been for ages one of the few specific "Schnaps" of Switzerland, typical for the Canton of Valais, like "Absinthe" is from the Val de Travers (Canton de Neuchâtel) or the "Damacine" from Canton du Jura. Now by what criterias wouldl you judge whether it is sufficiently or unsuficiently notable? I can assure you that Williamine's notoriety is worldwide, at least in the best restaurants and watering holes. I would strongly oppose deletion, also from the viewpoint that it is a part of Switzerland's identity.

- The criterion for judging notability should be that the topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. If it is indeed the case that Williamine's notoriety is worldwide (I must confess I'd never encountered the brand name until I saw it mentioned in our article Poire Williams; maybe my watering holes are lacking in quality) it should be easy to come up with citations of such sources. --Lambiam 17:51, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
