Shell Access

edit

I have removed Shell Access chapter stating that WinSCP requires shell access for proper operation. This is property of OpenSSH servers, not of WinSCP (at least for SFTP protocol). --Prikryl 19:34, 20 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't understand this comment. It seems that in many cases WinSCP will not work with standard default website host configurations. Some kind of special shell access has to be enabled for it to work. The article should mention this, and clearly state what is required at the host end to be able to use it.

Since the U3 version is mentioned in the portable section, I added the Portableapps.com version too. 208.125.109.20 (talk) 15:40, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Advertisements in installer

edit

Many places on the web link to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WinSCP#Advertisements_in_installer -- a section that was removed in this edit:[1]

The claim that WinSCP installer once included OpenCandy or bundled Google Chrome is totally unsourced, as is the claim that they stopped doing that in 2014.

Furthemore, it looks to me from reading this [2] that the malware was added by Sourceforge, not WinSCP. --Guy Macon Alternate Account (talk) 02:41, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
