Pennsylvania Railroad War Memorial
editI've removed reference to the sculpture in 30th Street Station (Philadelphia) because it's not victory; it's the archangel Michael. Mangoe 23:13, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Cleanup
editI have removed the following links from the disambiguation because I don't think that they are are unlikely ever to be written or would be likely to be removed as insufficiently notable topics(see disambiguation pages-redlinks).
- Winged Victory (story) is the title of a 1958 science fiction story by Thomas Burnett Swann about the statue
- Winged Victory (film) is a film directed by George Cukor in 1943
- Winged Victory (DC Comics) is the horse of the Shining Knight
Parentheses needed?
edit@Johnbod: Should we just make Winged Victory a disambiguation page? ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:16, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
@JHunterJ: Pinging you as well. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:47, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, we don't seem to have an article directly covering the main meaning, which has been common in art for over 2,000 years, and is not properly covered by a single misnamed statue, however famous. The best I can see so far is Victoria_(mythology)#Iconography) - btw Winged victories redirects there. Johnbod (talk) 21:33, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
- That's a move of the disambiguation page to the base name, with
eithera regularor technicalmove request. There's currently a "main meaning" (primary topic), the particular statue. You can't retarget the base name here (WP:MALPLACED), and disambiguation pages aren't encyclopedic articles, so you can't put content like "In classical mythology the goddesses and personifications of victory were winged females, Victoria to the Romans and Nike to the Greeks. These are frequently depicted in art, often in pairs." -- JHunterJ (talk) 12:29, 16 May 2019 (UTC)- Can't use a technical move request per previous consensus on the primary topic Talk:Winged Victory (novel)#Requested move. It'll need to be a regular move request. -- JHunterJ (talk) 12:32, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
Mistaken accusations of OR
edit@Johnbod:
- https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Winged_Victory_(disambiguation)&diff=897361231&oldid=897345738 "NEVER called by the plain term - no OR please JHunter"
- https://www.thelantern.com/2013/03/winged-victory-replica-statue-placed-in-thompson-library-100-year-history-with-ohio-state/ for it called by the plain term (i.e., not "NEVER")
- Winged Victory -- for the current primary topic, not OR, just used the redirect since you kept removing the primary topic from the lede contrary to the disambiguation guidelines
- WP:NPA and WP:CIVIL for general collaboration advice
-- JHunterJ (talk) 15:08, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
- Well done finding some people in Ohio talking about a different statue! It was OR using a name that our article does not. Johnbod (talk) 15:31, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. It was easy since it was a reference in the WP article. It was not OR using a redirect that our encyclopedia uses. It was inappropriate for you to keep adding article content to a disambiguation page while taking the primary topic out of the lede. -- JHunterJ (talk) 17:08, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
