This term is thrown around a lot in the cannabis processing space, but the concept of the process is older and uses different solvents to separate different byproducts from different products. The first sentence of this article as it is now (before I change it here in a moment) does not respect this broad context. Cannabis is one of the applications of winterization, where ethanol is the solvent of choice (methanol works better). THe more industrially relevant application is the winterization of cooking oil
