Wireline means not wireless

edit

I have also seen the term wireline used to mean the opposite of wireless. Mathiastck 22:18, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

The text of this article looks a lot like that found here: http://www.reference.com/search?r=13&q=Wireline with only subtle changes. is that a copyright problem? 76.81.61.145 07:59, 31 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I definitely recognise the sections I wrote in that reference.com article. They clearly ripped us off, rather than the other way round. If you look to the bottom, it looks like they may be crediting Wikipedia as the source.

I guess ppen source is technically made with the intention of being ripped off. There's a quotation at the top.

|Besides that, fantastic article. This makes it a lot easier to pay attention to my offshore instructions. Bmunden 04:28, 4 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Impartiality

edit

This document needs an impartiality review.

"weatherford is widely known to be the best in the business" - i am pretty sure that is not impartial, not to mention the fact that it is untrue. if i was drilling a well i would use SLB for wirelining... if i bothered wirelining at all. which i wouldn't afaik sperry and slb both have wireline quality LWD tools rendering the need for wireline a thing of the past. sperry even have a high end NMRIL tool and i am pretty sure weatherford are many miles behind in terms of that type of technology. anyway that's my deux centimes.

well, beg to differ but Weatherford is indeed pretty well known, and that you might prefer another hardly makes your opinion any less impartial. Add to that the fact that you operate under the misconception that LWD tools can render WL tools unnecessary shows your lack of real understanding anyway. But I would agree that there is a bit of fluff in the article but not enough to get bothered about, after all this is Wikipedia. Ken (talk) 14:50, 4 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Merge

edit

I am wondering if this article should be merged with the 'well logging' one. Alison Troup —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.84.89.129 (talk) 02:02, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Slickline

edit

80% Slickline??? That doesn't sound right by any means. Perhaps a source should be supplied. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.141.186.141 (talk) 03:46, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

What has happened to slickline and braided line, this article has been hi-jacked by some electric line engineer and they have removed all references to wireline in its original and most commonly used form. Wireline was first carried out by the chinese to measure well depth and then developed by Otis as a means of setting downhole well control devices. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eckieboy (talkcontribs) 10:28, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I moved all slickline information to a slickline and all electric line information to electric line. I felt that wireline was a blanket term encompassing both specialties, and I felt that it was appropriate for both articles to be separate. I think the 'wireline' redirect should make it an option between going to electric line or slickline. I'm sorry for the confusion. Jax8248 (talk) 02:25, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rewrite

edit

I added a cased hole tools section, rewrote the pressure control section, and rewrote the definition of electric wireline. I still feel like its not up to par. As an electric line engineer, I feel like this will be my pet project for a while. In the mean time, I beleive someone needs to clean up the open hole section for grammar and structure. I might attempt that later on. This really needs references, but I can't find anything to cite. Jax8248 (talk) 00:22, 30 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Impartiality part 2

edit

this artcle does not give a true impartial relfection of Wireline in all its forms, it has be written entirly from a well logging viewpoint. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.173.105.62 (talk) 11:33, 12 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bad title

edit

Wireline cabling is a stupid title for this section, as wireline has a redirect page for slickline and electric line, as well as for Plain Old Telephone POTS. Therefore, I think that the title should be changed back to Electric Line from the currently ambiguous wireline cabling AND that the reference to POTS be removed as it is seen in the wireline redirect page. Inaccurate

edit

As a professional who makes a living from supervising electric wireline logging operations I find this entire article to be incomplete, inaccurate and often incorrect. For example, the wireline, in this case, is not a braided line, it is an armoured cable consisting of outer and inner armours with opposite orientation... the first of many errors. Slhuyton (talk) 18:04, 15 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

If only someone would correct the spelling and punctuation errors we would have a good start at improving the article. I will give it some effort but can't dedicate myself to it at this moment. Ken (talk) 14:16, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
