Ambiguous Grammar

edit

"As it is a contact sport injuries can occur at any time."

This sentence could be read two ways, considering the previous sentence.

As it is, contact sport injuries can occur at any time.

As it is a contact sport, injuries can occur at any time.

I was unsure of the intended meaning and edited out the 'a' before realizing it is correct if the sentence is read differently.

Just pointing out its a bit confusing.FredNash

More Ambiguity

edit

"Typically holding or slinging the player in a tackle is not allowed but subtle pressure is and a player can be hardly tackled."

I don't understand this sentence at all.

I significantly rewrote this section. Hope it makes some sense now ;) --Spewmaster 06:50, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Participation numbers & article formats

edit

I'd also suggest that these figures and club listing probably belong in the corresponding Australian Rules Football articles. This page should be reserved as an overview of the women's game rather than segregating the content from the overall sport. For example, the number of female participants and clubs in the USA should instead be listed in the article Australian rules football in the United States. Please discuss.

Information on participation numbers should also be cited. --Spewmaster 23:49, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

International Cup Speculation

edit

This page contains a lot of speculation about women's teams being represented at the 2008 International Cup, however the AFL has clearly stated that it dos not support women playing its game as it would show up the men. They will not be proceeding with a women's cup.

See: http://www.worldfootynews.com/article.php/20070729221631386

the AFL's Cup organiser Roger Berryman has advised that it isn't in the plans for 2008, but would be considered in the future. Currently it's difficult to think of more than two countries, besides Australia, that currently have significant full contact women's sides - the US and Canada (drop us an email if you know of any others). Even those competitions are very much in their infancy, as are youth programs for girls in Papua New Guinea and South Africa. So any inclusion at the International Cup would've been more as a first step to encourage additional countries to spread the sport amongst females. Hopefully by 2012 there will be a clear demand for a women's division.

Yeah, the 2008 cup article now says: The USA Women's team announced an intention to send a squad to play against Australia and possibly Papua New Guinea. Additionally Canada and England announced their intentions to send Under 17s squads. As a result, there was speculation over an inaugural women's and under 17 divisions. However the AFL denied these divisions in favour of a senior men's competition only.
So, that wasn't there. Probably it should be edited to this article too... 85.217.36.232 (talk) 07:08, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
