Predecimal currency notation

edit

I removed the 'superscript' for old pennies (3d and 6d). As I recall, Woolworth's had chrome-plated price tag frames stuck in the counters, with a square card (perhaps 20-30 cm square) stuck in to show the price. A large "1/-" fits in the square, but lesser amounts were written with a big 3, 6, etc, and a (possibly capital) 'D' very small in the top right corner.

In normal text (I just checked the SOED) it should be written "6d." with a full-stop, which I just corrected. But the reference given as "Woolworths Group Plc., et al. (2006)." (--- huh?! ---) or perhaps "Liverpool Courier", 27 September 2007 keeps using "6D". This may be an error in the reference, which should be 'sic', or it may be careless editing.

Leeds fire

edit

The whole section for the Leeds branch is an account of a fire in 1969. But the references cited were: a photo of a Woollies cafe umpty years ago, and a forum discussion. This latter started off with "Aye, weren't there a fire down't Woollies in Leeds in 1969?", went through the possibility that this was actually Manchester 1971, and ended citing this article. The first few refereces I found all seemed to be circular links to here. So I suspect this is a fantasy...

Cafes source?

edit

Could this be used as a source for the list of stores with cafes in them? https://wooliesbuildings.wordpress.com 92.20.190.227 (talk) 12:16, 5 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

2nd reference / mistake in the year "1017"

edit

The 2nd reference says:
Graham Tibbetts (26 November 2008). "History of Woolworths". The Telegraph. Archived from the original on 16 September 1017. "That store in Liverpool was called FW Woolworths, a subsidiary of the US parent which was started in 1879 "
This "1017" is very likely a mistake.

Bullet point near picture instead of text

edit

There's a bullet point near a picture on this article instead of it being opposite the text. In my opinion, it looks strange in its current location within the article. Xboxsponge15 (talk) 20:09, 27 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

List of stores with cafés in them should be put into alphabetical order

edit

In my opinion, the list of stores with cafés in them should be put into alphabetical order as in my opinion it looks better and would make the article look more professional. Xboxsponge15 (talk) 20:28, 27 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Woolworths GroupWoolworths Group (United Kingdom) – No clear primary topic between this and Woolworths Group (Australia). Pageviews are broadly similar over the past year [1] (log scale may help) with the UK a little bit ahead, albeit some of those may have clicked through to the Australian page. Incoming links are 366 for the UK vs 386 for Australia. Both are/were large, well-known companies, nothing obvious to me to separate them in terms of size or historical significance. "Woolworths Group" could either be turned into a disambiguation or redirected to Woolworth. Ivar the Boneful (talk) 13:37, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Woolworths Group (United Kingdom)Woolworths (United Kingdom) – 'Woolworths Group' is not in the public interest in my opinion, the overwhelming majority of the UK see Woolworths as a high-street chain. To me, it makes sense to have this as Woolworths (United Kingdom). Especially considering a lot of its subsidiaries that made Woolworths Group have now been sold off.
