  • Source: DeShazo, Peter (1983). Urban Workers and Labor Unions in Chile, 1902–1927. University of Wisconsin Press. p. 111. ISBN 0299092208. The general strike of 1907 demonstrated that the strength of organized labor in Chile had grown tremendously in just a few years but that the decentralized nature of its institutional structure precluded any effective action on either a regional or interindustrial basis. Despite the fact that the original strikers of the railway shops won much higher wages as well as important safeguards for future wage security, the strike must be considered a failure.
