Graphics

edit

I've added a top-level graphic and a local graphic pertaining to the example given in the article. Color may be an issue for the local graphic. Hm. mdf 18:34, 19 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

They're great, thanks for doing that! The only thing I would suggest is to highlight the PJ square in the GJ map, in line with the example. — Johantheghost 19:02, 19 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Made GJPJ darker. mdf 18:14, 20 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

North Pole

edit

Could someone with the knowledge please add some words on how the north pole is normally expressed in the GEOREF system? Is it NNAA00000000, NMAR00000000 or NMAQ00006000? Or do you have to be content with NMAQ00005999 being "close enough"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.227.119.137 (talk) 14:40, 20 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Moved to World Geographic Reference System. There is no consensus for moving GeoRef to GeoRef (database), it needs separate RM discussion. (non-admin closure) Fuortu (talk) 11:15, 24 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

GeorefGEOREF – The proper name is GEOREF, as used by all primary references in the article. +mt 00:40, 15 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Format conversion error

edit

The format conversions from DD° MM' SS" to decimal degrees, DD.ddddddd°, appears to be incorrectly calculated

38° 17' 10" = 38 + (17+10/60)/60 = 38.28611111°

-76° -24' -42" = -76 - (24 + 42/60)/60 = -76.41166667°

The resulting one minute resolution GEOREF represenation should be GJPJ3517 The minute component of latitude, 17, can be read right off the original representation, the exact number of minutes. Minute component of longitude is 59 - floor(24 + 42/60) = 35. This error makes it difficult for people (like me) trying to implement this to have confidence in our results.

1.00 Minute precision: GJPJ3517

0.10 Minute precision: GJPJ353171

0.01 Minute precision: GJPJ35301716
