Amateurs?

edit

I think there should be a section on the amateur world champions as well --202.138.180.35 (talk) 22:55, 19 July 2009 (UTC) History of Dancesport in Italy 1920-2005Reply

I removed this passsage because it's clearly POV (e.g. "downgraded from the original") - cogent 207.237.225.30 04:03, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

International Latin dancing covers the dances cha cha, rumba, jive, samba and paso doble, although extremely changed and downgraded from the original, as the Latinamerican sense of rythm is proven to be very difficult to follow by non-spanish europeans. In fact, "Cha-cha" is the anglo-saxon interpretation of the original "Cha-cha-cha".

Notice

edit

The list should have noted that for much of the time there were effectively two or more parallel organisations, and hence different world championships. A comparison with the list in Wainwright, Lyndon 1997. The story of British popular dance. IDTA publication, gives on p58 a list which varies in the years before the amalgamation of WDDSC. I will return to this situation after a bit of consultation. Macdonald-ross (talk) 18:52, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Change of name

edit

The organization controlling the world championships has again changed its name. It is now the World Dance Council (WDC), and so the title of this and other articles must be changed also. Their website says:

"The WDC is the world authority for professional Dance and Dance Sport incorporating the World Dance Sport Committee and the World Social Dance Committee.
"The World Dance Council Ltd, until 1st June 2006 known as the World Dance & Dance Sport Council Ltd (WD&DSC), fomerly the International Council of Ballroom Dancing (ICBD), was established on 22nd September 1950 in Edinburgh, Scotland."

I am going to suggest that, for the sake of simplicity, we call this article World Professional Latin Dance Champions, with the present fuller description in the lead para. Macdonald-ross (talk) 16:21, 27 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
