Epidemic or Pandemic?
editWouldn't it be a Pandemic not an epidemic, because when it is intercontinental it is Pandemic not epidemic. And of course it is "World No tobacco Day"--Runningcupcake03 18:53, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- It can't be a pandemic - its not infectious. I doubt epidemic is an appropriate word either - tobacco useage in itself is not a disease. I think I'll change it to something less contentious. 92.238.108.120 (talk) 05:16, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- Not Infectious you ever hear of second hand smoke? Maxcardun (talk) 19:56, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
Deaths per year
editSo, reading this article, I realized that it had two statistics each saying different yearly tobacco-related death tolls. In the intro paragraph, it says 3.5 million yearly deaths, and then in the History section, it says 400,000 deaths yearly. Which one is right? Iridescence talk • contrib 01:40, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- Lack of clarity, as might be expected in POV articles. The former figure is the WHO estimate on worldwide deaths attributable to tobacco use; the latter is the high-end estimate from the WHO and our own NIH for tobacco-related deaths in the U.S.
- As far as a Wiki article goes - these stats need a citation, easily available to anyone who wants to add one. Sensei48 (talk) 05:34, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
5.4 million deaths should be the correct figure, considering that the title of this article is WORLD No Tobacco Day. There could be a subsection on American deaths, and then the figure of 400,000 would be correct.Flatspider (talk) 20:50, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
