"Non-western?"
So I take it that anything not American is "non-western?" For example, Afro-Cuban music and the Caribbean? If so, the definition for "World" music is stupid and stereotypical. Savvyjack23 (talk) 14:29, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
- Creedence Clearwater Revival (for instance) is known all over the world. This article assumes that "world music" is "music that is not from the USA". That is demonstrably untrue. 173.174.85.204 (talk) 23:13, 13 June 2016 (UTC) Eric
- You might try reading the article first. It discusses the problematic character of the term in some detail.—Jerome Kohl (talk) 01:04, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
- I accept that my comment was rash. I think the problem is not well-discussed in the article, but it would be annoying to have to qualify or explain "World Music" every time a particular person, band, song or genre is mentioned. 173.174.85.204 (talk) 20:31, 22 June 2016 (UTC)Eric
- Given the fact that, without such a qualification, the expression is practically meaningless, that might not be such a bad thing. Still, in what way does the discussion of this problem fall short, in your opinion?—Jerome Kohl (talk) 22:03, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
