A New Zealand native definition of a Stock and Station Agent 1978, please note source

STOCK AND STATION AGENTS—Many of the existing stock and station agents first commenced business as general merchants or retailers in the early days of the country's settlement. However, during the greater part of their history, the main financial operations have been in the supply of merchandise, machinery and implements, and the provision of finance to the farming community. The companies have developed a specialised banking business involving the maintenance of current accounts for farmers, the acceptance of time deposits and the granting of secured and unsecured advances. It is a widespread practice for farmers to have current accounts with their stock and station agents to which the proceeds of the sale of livestock and produce are placed and farm and personal expenses charged. Any surplus may be left on current account or placed with the agents on fixed deposit. Stock and station agents have top-tier borrowing priority with the trading banks in order to obtain additional funds to lend for seasonal and farm development needs.

(As there seems to be no response) @Paora: You might like to explain here exactly why you wish to change the names I chose. We have to be at least consistent. Looking forward to hearing your views. Eddaido (talk) 03:34, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sure - just following the Wikipedia Manual of Style, specifically MOS:INITIALS, as noted in my edit summary. Paora (talk) 03:41, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
You are going to have to wait a while for this but you can make a start with this item and I'll be back, I promise. Please don't go on with your reverting. Eddaido (talk) 03:51, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Eddaido: Please be aware of WP:EDITWAR. You've reverted this page three times in less than an hour, which constitutes an edit war. To avoid entering into an edit war, I will not revert again. That does not mean, however, that I agree with your conclusion. Paora (talk) 04:06, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Would you accept W. D. Hunt, J. A. Johnstone (I don't know the truth of this you will have to go by the Hunt item's reference to Johnstone) and to fit with your wishes Cliff Plimmer and Ron Trotter though I dislike the inconsistency. What are your thoughts about this suggestion? Eddaido (talk) 04:09, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

It's not about what you or I might dislike, it's about following the Wikipedia Manual of Style, unless there is a very good reason not to. You've asked me to accept something that you say that you don't know the truth of, which is hardly a compelling reason to set aside the Manual of Style. According to MOS:INITIALS, "Use initials in a personal name only if the name is commonly written that way". Looking at Hunt's DNZB entry, he his referred to there as "William", not as "W D"; similiarly Johnstone in his DNZB entry is referred to as "James", not as "J A". Moreover, in Wikipedia, article titles are a subject's common name, per WP:COMMONNAME, and the article titles for Johnstone and Hunt are "James Johnstone" and "William Hunt", respectively, not "J A Johnstone" and "W D Hunt". Are you suggesting that these article titles currently do not use the common names? As an aside, if ultimately it is decided to use initials for these names, then the initials should include full points (periods) as per MOS:INITIALS. Paora (talk) 04:48, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well now, why do I find W D Hunt and J A Johnstone in those articles ( in contexts where you would see them as Will and Jim ) and you would seem to overlook them? Eddaido (talk) 04:51, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
To reiterate, the article about Johnstone does not refer to Johnstone as J A Johnstone, it refers to him as James Johnstone. The article about the man himself, written by an expert about him, would be expected to be a more reliable source than an article whose primary topic is a different person. Nowhere have I suggested using Will or Jim, or Cliff for that matter, so not sure why you have raised that. I did, however, change "R R Trotter" to Ron Trotter, but that was to be consistent with the recent move of Trotter's page from Ronald Trotter to Ron Trotter, in line with the consensus reached on the talk page for that article before the page was moved. Paora (talk) 05:03, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
You are good on reiterations. The articles about the two men each refer to the other man by their common name — initials and surname. Eddaido (talk) 05:06, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Paora: To see what I mean consider this example "Richard Austen Butler, Baron Butler of Saffron Walden, KG, CH, PC, DL (9 December 1902 – 8 March 1982), generally known as R. A. Butler and familiarly known from his initials as Rab" and he is rather younger than they. Eddaido (talk) 09:33, 24 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Not sure what relevance the above example is, given that it does not refer to Trotter, Hunt or Johnstone. Paora (talk) 09:43, 24 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
You are not? well I am. ! Eddaido (talk) 09:45, 24 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Would you be kind enough to explain then please, so that I can understand? Paora (talk) 20:43, 24 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

As a small-brained bear myself, I can understand how that happens. Here are direct quotes from the two biographies written more than 20 years ago:

So, you've ignored the explanation. Don't fear, someone will be along to change the usages you prefer (because they fit your world view), it might take a few decades but it will happen. Also, you should pick a colleague who knows her subjects before she screws up other people's work. Eddaido (talk) 09:47, 8 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
No. I have have considered your explanation and found it wanting, as I have explained above in great detail. WP:COMMONNAME applies. Paora (talk) 10:04, 8 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
