Archival?

I read the word "forever" and then I read that in ambient temperatures data will last for more than a century. I have books more than two centuries old sitting on my shelves. I have handled a book written in 1180. None of those will last forever, but so far have lasted a lot longer than what WORF promises. What is the big deal?
