"Wyee is considered a shanty town and remains highly unchanged since World War II."

edit

As much as I love tormenting a work colleague that lives in Wyee about it being a "shanty town", it's only one small part of the township of Wyee that the cited article ( https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-06/inside-the-100-year-old-shantytown-almost-unchanged-since-ww1/9022680 ) is referring to, not the entire township of Wyee. Most of Wyee is quite modern with new dwellings, the article is only referring to one small part of Wyee on the Western side of the railway line as being the "shanty town". 156.22.3.1 (talk) 02:09, 22 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

And the ABC article surrounded the term in scare quotes. It was quoting an LMCC councillor, context unclear. The anonymous user who added the sentence also got the date wrong -- the source says it's been there since "the year World War I broke out", not World War II. I'll fix it. -- Tim Starling (talk) 01:54, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
