Trivia box removed

edit

Mostly because it's irrelevant, i.e. no one really cares what kind of van they drive. Breathefire 17:28, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, trivia enthusiasts would care about this. --Siva1979Talk to me 18:12, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I trimmed down the trivia section a bit, and changed the IMDB link to the wikipedia stub, which has a further link to the imdb article. Miles 16:37, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

If it's going to be there, I made it look decent. Changed some spelling, added links to the appropriate articles, removed some biased wording to make it read like an encyclopedia article, not a "puff-peice." I don't know the band members personally, but I would assume that some of the names may need quotations (such as Massive Mike being changed to "Massive" Mike, or "B-Town"). Also, some confusion on the van, since there is no "Dodge Prospector," only a Prospector edition on the Dodge Rampage (that I can find any mention of). If anyone wants to clarify, feel free to do so. edit: Jlricherson 00:12, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I do not believe that this post should be deleted. It was deleted before because the band was not "notable". I disagree with this. If you do a google search for "xdeathstarx" you will see there are many results for this band. The bands record label has a wikipedia entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facedown_Records). xdeathstarx is the largest band on their label. xdeathstarx is also one of the most popular christian bands that play hardcore music in the united states. For these reasons I believe the band is notable and deserves a wikipedia entry.

thank you

Sources would help. We can't take your word for what's notable or not. If these guys are getting significant media coverage, let's see some sources. Friday (talk) 18:22, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have added several links to websites that have reviewed the bands albums. I also added a link to the bands iTunes store and ticketmaster ticket sales. I will add more links to media postings of the band later today. Thanks for helping me make this entry more notable. Josh Highland 18:39, 21 June 2007 (UTC) JoshReply

Are the Xs decorative, or is the band's name actually "eksdeathstareks"? Exploding Boy 18:41, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

the X's are part of the bands name, it denotes they are a straight edge band. The x's are not pronounced though. This is common for bands of this musical genre. Josh Highland 18:47, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I pronounce it "eksdeathstareks" anyway. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.54.71.198 (talk) 15:48, 25 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

What does this mean? It seems like two sentences that directly conflict with one another:

It has often been stated that all members of the band are interchangeable, meaning that any member can play any instrument at any time. This even applies if the member cannot play said instrument. (first paragraph)

209.188.51.46 (talk) 03:22, 14 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't seem like the sentences conflict with each other. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 03:50, 14 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
It was added here and I have just removed it since it's not cited. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 03:55, 14 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: move. -- tariqabjotu 12:55, 29 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

XDEATHSTARxXDeathstarx – Per MOS:TM and MOS:CAPS, all-caps in Wikipedia titles, even if they are names, are to be written in the style "Abcdefg". For example, refer to Time (magazine), Miami Heat, or Ottawa Redblacks. An exception to this would occur if the letters are pronounced individually, such as KFC. Taroaldo 22:26, 19 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

(edit conflict)*Note. The slightly unusual format xDeathstarx occurs because the 'x' additions, while part of the name, are not pronounced. They indicate that they are a straight edge band. The pronunciation would be "Deathstar". Taroaldo 22:43, 19 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Your request has two parts. The first is to change the first character to a lower-case "x", which is technically not possible. The second part is fine provided that we indicate that the name is stylized as xDEATHSTARx. Walter Görlitz (talk) 22:39, 19 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
If a lower-case 'x' is not possible, XDeathstarx should be fine. The lower case 'x' can be styled within the article, as it is presently. My only concern in requesting the move was the "DEATHSTAR" in all-caps. Thank you for the clarification. Taroaldo 22:51, 19 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
What new name? We are following Wikipedia's naming guideline. A stylized name is not always recognized. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:43, 22 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Bob, did you not read my reasons for requesting the move? There is no new name. The Wikipedia Manual of Style does not support names which are written in ALL CAPS, with narrow exceptions. I even cited well-known examples such as Time (magazine) and Miami Heat. Taroaldo 21:00, 22 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Walter Görlitz: This is a requested move. "xDeathstarx" ould be the new name. "XDEATHSTARx" ≠ "xDeathstarx".
Taroaldo: To the extent that anybody interprets part of the MOS guideline as requiring us to use an article title which fails our most important policy, either that part of the MOS is faulty, or the interpretation is faulty. I don't really care which. bobrayner (talk) 22:18, 22 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
The band name would not change only the article name. The lede sentence would likely change to
xDeathstarx, usually stylized as xDEATHSTARx and pronounced as /ˈdɛθstɑːr/ was an American...
This is in keeping with Wikipedia style guidelines. Walter Görlitz (talk) 22:39, 22 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

WP:V does not apply, MOS:TM does. Time is stylized as TIME, Miami Heat is stylized as HEAT, Ottawa Redblacks is stylized as REDBLACKS. This move does nothing except apply MOS:TM consistently. Concluding that this move requires WP:V is non sequitur. Taroaldo 23:35, 22 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Why? Only the last one has any articles of significance pointing to them so they are not likely mis-spelling. Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:26, 23 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
The last would be a capslock error. The others would be variations that would be found applying various guidelines. They are also found out in the wild (ie. the real world outside of Wikipedia). -- 65.94.79.6 (talk) 21:52, 23 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Member list

edit

Why are we insisting on referencing of the bandmember list? Is there some debate as to who was in the band or what instruments they played? this sort of information is rarely controversial and should be trivially easy to verify. The whole affair looks a bit WP:POINTy to me. Chubbles (talk) 18:07, 5 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Because the editor who is adding them has a history of adding unsourced content. If you want to read WP:V, feel free to show me where I'm being pointy. Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:18, 5 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
I am, indeed, asking why you are challenging this generally uncontroversial information, so that I can see why you are worried about its inclusion per WP:V. Please explain. I was also wondering about you and this editor with a history of adding unsourced content, for what it's worth. Are you mentoring Metalworker14? Chubbles (talk) 04:52, 6 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
I have tried to support him in his edits but he does not respond and they're getting worse.
It's not really "uncontroversial information" either. If he were to decide to add a friend's name to the list, how we we know without a verifiable source? Walter Görlitz (talk) 04:58, 6 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
So the problem is the additions he made to the memberlist are unreliable? Chubbles (talk) 05:03, 6 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
The problem is that the editor's edits are generally unsourced. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:39, 6 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
