Fair use rationale for Image:Xoldlogo.jpg

edit

Image:Xoldlogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

One or more portions of this article duplicated other source(s). The material was copied from this URL: http://www.xbhs.com/s/141/xaverian.aspx?sid=141&gid=1&pgid=929. While credit was given (here), this is insufficient to meet the requirements set out at our non-free content guideline. Duplicated material must be appropriately marked, as by quotation marks, and attributed and must conform to fair use allowances, including in brevity.

Infringing material has been removed and must not be restored, unless it is duly released under a license compatible with GFDL. (For more information, please see "using copyrighted works from others" if you are not the copyright holder of this material, or "donating copyrighted materials" if you are.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. Contributors may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences or phrases. Accordingly, the material may be rewritten, but only if it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:29, 26 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

NPOV

edit

I'm placing an Advert flag on the intro section, the last paragraph of which reads a bit too promotionally. Brochure-ready copy like "Xaverian is a place where technology meets the student" has no place in an encyclopedia — and in the case of that particular sentence, I've removed it. The rest of the section could still use a bit more WP:NPOV love, though, to be less of what Wikipedia is not. FeRD_NYC (talk) 19:10, 24 January 2011 (UTC) I believe that John R. Egan, who graduated in 1975 and then went on to Boston College was a founder of EMC and the E in EMC of course is his surname. He would be our most successful graduate in my opinion rather than the high profile athletes mentioned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kft345 (talkcontribs) 15:39, 26 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Non-free use of File:Xaverian Hawks logo.jpeg

edit

File:Xaverian Hawks logo.jpeg is a non-free image. In order for an non-free image to be used in a Wikipedia article it needs to satisfy all 10 of the criteria specified in WP:NFCCP due to copyright concerns. The use of the image in this article does not satisfy WP:NFCC#10c and WP:NFCC#8. Per NFCC#10c, all non-free images are required to have a separate, specific non-free use rationale for each article they are being used, and this image does not have one for this article. In addition, this image is not used as the primary means of identification of the subject matter of the article. File:Xaverian Brothers High School (emblem).png and File:Xaverian Brothers High School logo.jpeg are being used for that. Since the Xaverian Hawks logo is not being used as the primary means of identification (unlike its use in Xaverian Hawks), it cannot be used for purely identification (i.e., decorative) purposes, but instead has to be the subject of sourced critical commentary within the article itself, which it is not. There is a stand-alone article for "Xaverian Hawks" where the image is being used. If there was no such article, then the image could possibly be used here. There is a hatnote "Main article: Xaverian Hawks" at the beginning of "Athletics" section which wikilinks to "Xaverian Hawks" so the logo is not needed for the reader's understanding at all and no infomration is lost by removing it. - Marchjuly (talk) 16:24, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
