Contested deletion
edit@Praxidicae: This page should not be speedily deleted because... as stated in the creation note, the player now meets WP:GNG. Several articles written about Simons, and definitely more notable than other recent page creations which have been brought to AfD and allowed to stand, i.e. Luqman Hakim Shamsudin. --Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 18:31, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
- Prove it with a source then because the ones you've included aside from CNN are garbage. Praxidicae (talk) 18:32, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Praxidicae: since when is goal.com not a reputable source? I've seen it used numerous times in football articles, i.e. Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar. Also your removing the fact that his father was a former professional footballer seems kind of pointless, it's a relevant fact. The article should stand with the remaining sources, as this still meets WP:GNG. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 18:47, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
- Please see WP:COATRACK. Also this is not a reliable source this might come from a reliable website but this piece is far from reliable and this isn't about him and confirms no statement in the sentence it's citing. Praxidicae (talk) 18:41, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

- @Praxidicae: fair. But I have put the goal.com source back in as I still feel it is relevant. I also still feel that this article meets WP:GNG and would rather see it go to an AfD than a speedy deletion, as I think other members of the community would agree. Happy to review this article over the next few days. :) Idiosincrático (talk) 02:13, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
Initial comments
- Bleacher Report is not a reliable source and has been discussed many times as not an appropriate source for Wikipedia, please try and use something different where used. Done
- The Soccerway link in the External links section is already referenced in the article and should be removed from the section. Done
- References by The Athletic are subscription access, each reference needs to have the "URL access level" parameter set to "subscription" Done
- SPORTbible really isn't a reliable reference for Wikipedia and something else should be used. Done
Honours & Statistics
- Citation #73 (for the KNVB Cup), needs to have Nederlandse Omroep Stichting listed as the publisher. Done
- Citation #34, needs to have the publisher parameter as "PSV" or "Philips Sport Vereniging", anytime a club offical website is cited, the club name needs to be listed as the publisher. Done
- For the "Club statistics" table, each row/season needs to be cited individually per WP:FOOTY. For an example, see Martin Ødegaard's club stats table, each season is referenced. Soccerbase is a good citation as it has the full list of games for each season, works really well here. Done
Once these concerns are met, I'll be happy with the Honours & Statistics sections, Ping me and I'll finish the review for the rest of the article. :) Idiosincrático (talk) 02:31, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Idiosincrático: All comments have been addressed! For the career statistics section, I didn't use Soccerbase, but FootballDatabase.eu instead; my school-issued computer blocks me from accessing Soccerbase. Paul Vaurie (talk) 04:17, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
International career
- Cition #53, Ben Hayward, both names should be in the last name/first name parameters; they're both in last name. Done
- I know I didn't like the nos.nl before but I think it should be okay, I changed it back. Done
- Pretty happy with this section
Personal life
- Citation #61 (Puma), de-capitalise. Not done —
the Puma reference itself uses all-caps, so I just used what was on the article itself. Unless there's a policy against this, I see no issue with having a citation in all-caps.
- Also just another thing, either translate every non-english title or none at all for consistency. I noticed a few references don't have translations and some do. Done
- I ran the citation and archive bots which fixed alot. Done
Early career & life
- Well written and cited. Done
PSG
- "Simons moved to French side Paris Saint-Germain (PSG)" > Simons moved to French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) Done
- Besoccer is not a reliable source, has been discussed a few times. Done
- "appearance of the 2021–22 season came in a 1–1 away draw to Lyon on" > appearance of the 2021–22 season came in a 1–1 away draw with Lyon on Done
- Other than that, really good. Done
PSV
- Can link AFC Ajax–PSV Eindhoven rivalry with "rivals" when discussing the 5–3 win over Ajax. Not done —
violation of MOS:SOB
- "Simons scored a brace" > Simons scored a brace (two goals); the term brace isn't common and needs clarification. Not done —
a link should suffice here.
- "order to finalize a" > order to finalise; spelt with an 's' in British English Not done —
see MOS:ARTCON. I happen to write in American English, and since this article is mostly written by me, let's keep it consistent as such.
- Citation #44, club name needs to go into the publisher parameter Done
- Pretty happy with the rest of the 'club career' section.
Other
- Lead is neat, I might make some reference adjustments after these points are addressed then I'll make sure the GA is passed :) Idiosincrático (talk) 08:26, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Idiosincrático: All comments have been addressed! I had to object to some of them, but I did the rest. Please ping me if there's anything else you need! Paul Vaurie (talk) 23:55, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
All done :) Idiosincrático (talk) 05:34, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
Different Loan Deal
editXavi went on loan for 1 season, the loan contract then ended and he signed again on a separate deal after a period of time. So basically adding Leipzig twice from 2023–2024 and 2024– as two different deals is my suggestion. 5.45.131.126 (talk) 10:58, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
