What...the heck?
editThe current version of this article reads like a promotional piece. Was it copied and pasted directly from a government website?
Examples of some of the things that I believe should be changed or removed to move towards NPOV:
- "The Y-12 National Security Complex is a premier manufacturing facility dedicated to making the United States and the world a safer place. Operated by BWXT Y‑12 for the National Nuclear Security Administration, Y‑12 plays a vital role in the Department of Energy's Nuclear Weapons Complex."
- "Y‑12 applies unique expertise, initially developed for highly specialized military purposes, to a wide range of manufacturing problems to support the capabilities of the U.S. industrial base. Y‑12’s all-inclusive expertise includes proceeding from concept, through detailed design and specification, to building prototypes and configuring integrated manufacturing processes."
- "Y‑12's mission is to meet the needs of the U.S. Department of Energy, the NNSA, other government agencies, and private industry through a commitment to excellence in the use of a technology-based manufacturing center."
Does anyone else agree that this article needs *major* work to move towards NPOV? --Takeel 01:44, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well, what do you know? Some parts of the article read like a government website copy-and-paste because that's what those parts are: http://www.y12.doe.gov/about/factsheet.php I will remove what I can identify from this website. --Takeel 02:02, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- More copied from here: http://www.y12.doe.gov/about/history.php Still working on it now. --Takeel 02:10, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- ...aaaand, it looks like all revisions are copy-paste jobs from .gov sites. This is going to be a big job. Would anyone mind if I stub-ify this article and start from scratch? --Takeel 02:15, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
The article is totally POV and Takeel has my support in trying to make it NPOV. Rick Norwood 15:15, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed. I'm OK with "stubify and start from scratch". AED 07:59, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- Absolutely! Nuke it and rebuild. - DavidWBrooks 14:15, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Stubification comlplete
editPer discussion on this talk page, I have stubified the article. I hope there is some interest in rebuilding this article beyond just me, but I will work on it as inspiration comes! --Takeel 18:11, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- ...and thanks to those who commented on my POV dispute. --Takeel 18:34, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

What the heck? redux
editI wanted to complain that this reads like a promotional piece, and I see someone has already complained about this. I came to this article from other sources on the web which say that the Colex plant was responsible for a historic amount of mercury emissions. As long as this info isn't prominent, I wonder whether this article is being supervised by defense contractors ... - The article needs a lot of work. Possible sources include Y-12: Poster child for a dysfunctional nuclear weapons complex History of mercury use and environmental contamination at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant Y-12 mercury losses. Hawkeye7 (talk) 20:58, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
