Talk:YORP effect

"...wedge faces are not parallel to the sphere's surface. An object with some "windmill" asymmetry can therefore..." I think I get it, but a graphic illustration would be great. Same goes for pre-YORP expected and measured spin distributions; I think I can picture it, but can't be sure the mental picture is right until seeing it. --Chuck.

Eventual elimination?

edit

How long a time-scale is "eventual elimination from the solar system"?

The timescale of the YORP effect is size dependent, so only the smallest are eliminated by repeated YORP effect driven rotational bursting events. This should be come clearer as I re-edit the article. Seth (talk) 15:42, 18 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yarkovsky–O'Keefe–Radzievskii–Paddack effectYORP effect – Based on Google Scholar results, it is likely that more academic literature uses the abbreviation than the rather unwieldy full name, just like NASA and TRIPS Agreement. However, there are no Google Books results about the YORP effect, so it is impossible to compare them using Ngrams. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 01:52, 18 January 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. >>> Extorc.talk 12:54, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

FWIW, "Yarkovsky–O'Keefe–Radzievskii–Paddack" (to encompass variations like "Yarkovsky–O'Keefe–Radzievskii–Paddack (YORP) effect") shows that a significant number of academic literature using the full name. – robertsky (talk) 14:07, 2 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
