Proposed Merge With Red card and/or Misconduct (football)
editSupport some sort of merge
edit- Support - They are related to the same game. They should be placed on one page with different headings for the types of cards. --dwightwatson 12:28, 5 June 2006 (AEST)
- Support The two articles both deal with penalties in a sport, and are quite similar to each other. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.162.17.132 (talk • contribs) at 12:32, 8 June 2006 (UTC).
- Support: they're the same sort of thing, and would look better in a slightly longer article. Quite a lot of info is replicated in both.--Keycard (talk) 06:45, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- Support - Receiving two yellow cards in close succession leads to a red card, therefore the two topics are quite closely related and it makes sense that the pages be combined.Melbell444 01:31, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Support - merging the articles will help avoid duplication. And by the way there's also an article called Misconduct (football), which contains similar information. Pako 10:02, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- Support - Receiving cards is obvious subject matter to an enthusiast so merging should be a good Idea. User:vasundhar 11:31, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- Support - merging the articles will provide better context. Should make more clear that the RedCard/YellowCard system is applied to many sports, and should include a list of sports which use the system. For an encyclopedia article, the article should lead with the many sports paragraph before going to the details for Assoiciation Football, or for any other sport. N2e 15:22, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- Support - The red and yellow card system is what the article should cover, having them seperate is awkward as the two are so closely linked. Lewispb 13:55, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- Conditional Support - I would support a merge, as long as the title is not specific to something else. For example I would object to merging it into Red card, but I have no objection to something like "Warning cards". I would also object to the merge with Misconduct (football), as yellow cards are not specific to that sport. --GW_Simulations|User Page | Talk | Contribs | E-mail 11:31, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- Conditional Support We need to distinguish the symbols from the situations where they apply. What we need are separate pages for:
- Yellow and red cards and other colours used in other games, with the history of the physical cards' introduction. Not all sports use these cards; in particular, American sports.
- Caution (sport), sin bin, Ejection (sports) separate pages for each type of situation which may produce a card, discussing all sports, whatever card (if any) symbolises them. Note that currently Sending off redirects to red card, not to Ejection (sports). There is also need to mention the basketball concept of fouling out. Possibly also we could have separate pages caution (football) and Sending off (football) if there is enough distinct content to justify it.
- Of course the pages would all wikilink to each other as appropriate. jnestorius(talk) 08:10, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Support merging into Misconduct (football) with disambig pages or redirects
edit- Support - The two pages cover most of the same material, and many passages are identical or very similar. Thus, I propose a merge, into a new page called Yellow and Red cards or something similar. Mistamagic28 (talk) 23:12, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- Support - I agree with Smyth's proposal, to merge the football/soccer material from both Red card and Yellow card into Misconduct (football), and leave the rest of those pages, or make them disambiguation pages with wikilinks to stubs about yellow and red cards in other sports. Mistamagic28 (talk) 16:40, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Support – I suggest that the football content be merged to
Yellow and red cards in footballMisconduct (football), with Yellow card and Red card left as disambiguation pages. – Smyth\talk 18:11, 14 June 2006 (UTC) Oppose - I don't see that we gain a lot from merging these. rhaas 13:44, 14 June 2006 (UTC)- I would support merging both yellow card and red card into Misconduct (football), but I oppose merging yellow card with red card and leaving Misconduct (football) separate. rhaas 17:59, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- Support merging both Yellow and Red Card into the Misconduct article with of course Yellow/Red Card redirecting there.--Jersey Devil 23:17, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- Support - It seems odd to me to leave these in separate pages, and also to have a page of their own. It makes more sense to move this information to sections each devoted to the sport in which they're used. --treed 18:57, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
Oppose any merge
editComment. Oppose. Soccer is not the only sport that uses these cards, mind you. Isopropyl 16:54, 4 June 2006 (UTC)- OpposeYeah, they DO deal in other sports, leave spereate. They also have seperate reasons to be given. --MasterPayne22 22:18, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose - per Daveb. Rogerthat Talk 08:05, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose - they are different enough to deserve their own articles. Matt White 19:54, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose - though they are in a similar format (by design), they deal with two quite different issues with very different consequences. --Daveb 10:39, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- Comment - I am still opposed to a merge, though if we were to merge as you suggest it would make sense to merge the football in with the existing Misconduct (football) article. --Daveb 13:43, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- Strong oppose - these articles could easily be expanded with the specific offences that warrant red and yellow cards outlined, and ones where the referees have discretion and ones where the offences give automatic cards. There is more than enough information to sort the two articles out into two articles, but each one should have a clear link to the other. (JROBBO 12:21, 19 June 2006 (UTC))
- Oppose - red and yellow cards are used in many other sports. Many sports have other cards as well (such as green card in hockey and blue card in bandy), having only one article for them all would be impractical and confusing. Denvesletigeren 15:08, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose. Concur with Denves. Sjakkalle (Check!) 08:13, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose. Very silly. --Ghirla -трёп- 09:22, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Comments/Other
edit- categories of offences are different for both the cards —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dineshwiki (talk • contribs) at 04:36, 15 June 2006 (UTC), in his first and only edit.
- These issues are different enough to support seperate pages —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.222.26.4 (talk • contribs) at 05:49, June 24, 2006 (UTC), in his first and only edit.
Partial Merge Performed
editIt seems like the most common reason for supporting some form of merge was that most of the actual content of these pages pertained specifically to football (soccer) and/or that much of the content was already present in misconduct (football). On the other hand, one of the reasons for opposing the merge was that, in spite of the actual content of the articles, red and yellow cards are in fact used in many other sports. Therefore, I took all of the stuff from the yellow card and red card pages that pertained to football (soccer) and merged it into misconduct (football). This eliminates a lot of duplicated content and, at least IMHO, makes it much easier to understand how the whole system works by reading one article. At the same time, it doesn't make it appear as if yellow and red cards are restricted exclusively to that support. If anyone is so inclined, the red card and yellow card articles can still be expanded by adding information about the use of the cards in other sports. I realize this solution probably won't please everyone, but hopefully it addresses most of the concerns that have been raised to date. rhaas 01:14, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
League
editPresumably they're used in NH rugby league? as they're not used in Australia. Not sure what their purpose is though, as the two yellows equals a red doesn't apply, and there's no need to keep a tally. --Angry mob mulls options 00:27, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
