Major issues with this article

edit
  • The #Works section needs some serious renovations. The giant prose should be cleaned up with the Japanese and Korean labels deleted. The table should be re-arranged in a less confusing way. I think it'll be best if we label the columns as "series(if applicable) | original title(Japanese OR Korean, not both) | translated title(English) | published date | remarks"
  • A lot of the stuff in the #In popular culture section is WP:TOOMUCH and should also be deleted.
  • The later half of the #Yi Sang and Education section sounds pretty pseudohistorical. Even if it isn't, we need a better source than a Youtube video and the entire section should be summarized with WP:POV stuff deleted.
  • Lead section is too short
  • And ofc, sourcing.

I will try and work on whatever I can, but much help is needed. --- 00101984hjw (talk) 17:42, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yeah I'm not sure why this article is in this state. It suddenly got a lot of attention starting in June. The additions are making the issues worse. 211.43.120.242 (talk) 14:02, 12 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Biggest problem we have rn is the #Works section. The giant prose above is pretty repetitive with the timeline table below. The table should also be separated to different subsections depending on what language it was written (or what genre of work it is, but I think the former is better) and not strictly in chronological order. Many of Yi's works have not been translated, so we should put in both the original and a translated title. Unfortunately I have little experience with tables, but I can WP:BOLD it by trial and error.
Also, any ideas for how the #Literary relationships and #Relationships with women section should be formatted? There should be a better way than this. 00101984hjw (talk) 20:02, 12 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
A good amount of literary relationships is clearly WP:ORIGINALRESEARCH, and essentially subjectively comparing/contrasting their works in Wikipedia's voice. For both sections, most of the writing is unsourced and has poor prose/spelling. Lot of MOS issues with linking and referencing. Also issues with TMI; less interesting and too niche details sometimes.
Normally I approach these situations by deleting a lot of things; basically only leaving the sourced statements. It's just too difficult otherwise to rein this kind of writing in politely and in a reasonable time frame. Why should we spend hours cleaning things that others didn't bother to do properly themselves? It's a balancing act though; sometimes bleh work has useful and probably true information; that kind of stuff I tag with citation needed and leave. 211.43.120.242 (talk) 16:10, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
GIST students taking this course are continually updating the English Wikipedia page for Yi Sang to contribute to the globalization of his literature.
Hmm.
GIST students. If any of yall find this message, we appreciate your efforts in updating this article (we really do, Korea-related articles in the English Wikipedia other than Kpop and Kdramas get very little attention from editors), but please be wary of Wikipedia's guidelines (WP:BLP) and add in-line citations to every line of information that is added to this article. 00101984hjw (talk) 17:49, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Tables

edit

I reformatted the tables in the #Works section by <Year>–<Series(if applicable)>–<Title(original)>–<Translated Title>–<Publisher>–<Remarks(if applicable)>. Some potential issues:

  • Many of Yi's works were posthumously discovered and published. Some of these works, which were originally written in Japanese, were translated by later Korean scholars and then published under a Korean title. This is the reason why there are essays with a Korean title in the #Works in Japanese section. As this may be confusing to English readers, we may need to specify more on this.
  • Some of Yi's posthumously published works are unclear whether they are poems or essays. Thus, some "poems" on the list were occasionally published as an essay, and vice versa.
  • The names of publishers are in Chinese script. I'll try converting some of them into English.
