First name’s spelling

Why is it spelled Jonasan and not Jonathan Steif ? (AFAIK the Hebrew/Yiddish? יונתן spelling on Wikidata is in favor of a "t" sound).
On VIAF the only source of "Jonasan" is wikidata, so could it be that Wikipedia made an error & it propagated itself?
Worldcat record mentions alternative names :
Shṭaif, Yonatan
Shṭaif, Mahari
Shṭaif, Yehonatan
but none is Jonasan!
