And that's the way it was?

Both my wife and I remember, or think we remember, Walter Cronkite using the phrase "And that's the way it was" as part of the close in some episodes of the 1950s television version of You Are There. It was part of the peroration, "What sort of a day was it? A day like all days..." This was before he became the CBS News anchorman. Indeed, both of us always thought that his famous closing phrase, "And that's the way it is" was an intentional reference to You Are There.

I haven't been able to find a verifiable source, though. But the fact that we both thought his news close was a reference to his You Are There close, and were surprised to realize that younger people do not, gives me enough confidence to mention it on the Talk page. 68.160.166.182 (talk) 17:10, 21 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
