Radio add date

'Da' definite article capitalization

edit

Given that 'Da' in the title is based on her pronunciation of the word 'the', should it not be in lower case? i.e. "You da One" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bwoodfine (talkcontribs) 00:02, 19 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I agree. But with art/poems, you normally take it as the artist intended. While on the single cover its all in caps so you can't tell, the YouTube video of her official VEVO has it as "Da": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3HeLs8Yosw Rudolfensis (talk) 12:04, 4 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't matter what the YouTube video says, it should be a lowercase D by default. See WP:CAPS BMfan27 12:32, 4 February 2012 (EST)

You Da OneYou da One – "Da" is the article. Read the discussion above. Relisted. Tyrol5 [Talk] 21:01, 1 March 2012 (UTC) Silvergoat (talkcontrib) 04:20, 23 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oppose because the album says otherwise. Even published websites and newspapers put "Da". Jivesh1205 (Talk) 04:26, 23 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
We follow guidelines, in English Wikipedia - even Japanese media. Silvergoat (talkcontrib) 04:50, 23 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
I know but I don't think it's fair to change the title of a song. Isn't that copyrighted or something like that? I am just asking. I don't have much knowledge about all this. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 05:01, 23 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Oppose. It if was "You The One" then I would say yes, change to "You the One". But "Da" is not really a word, so it is clearly intended to be capitalised in this case. Aaron You Da One 11:40, 23 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
See "In da Club", and "Right Thru Me" for examples. Silvergoat (talkcontrib) 14:44, 23 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Support. This is not a matter of tracking the mixed-up styles of "reliable sources", but of applying Wikipedia's own well-established guidelines. Clearly "da" is the definite article, just as much as "the" is. Styling varies on the web: "YOU DA ONE" (the styling on the album cover, which no one seriously suggests we use, right?); "You Da ONE"; You Da One"; and "You da One". This last (the style chosen at Billboard.com) matches Wikipedia's preferred style, so it is the one that should be adopted. NoeticaTea? 21:54, 23 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Netherlands charts

edit

There needs to be a decision made on what Netherland chart should be kept as they are both official singles charts but only one is needed. It is between the Dutch Top 40 and the Mega Single Top 100. I personally think the Dutch Top 40 is more reliable and official. PhoenixJHudson (talk) 18:03, 27 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned references in You da One

edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of You da One's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "Switzerland":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 15:39, 12 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Let's start the review, shall we? :)

General
Lead
  • "Production of the song was complete by Gottwald, under his production name Dr. Luke, and Cirkut." I assume you mean "completed" instead of "complete".
  • "It was recorded by Kuk Harrell and Marcas Tovar at Sofital Paris Le Laubourg, Room 538 and Westlake Recording Studios (Studio B), Los Angeles, California." This is an oddly structured sentence. Perhaps this is better, "Kuk Harrell and Marcas Tovar recorded the track at the Sofital Paris Le Laubourg, Room 538, and Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles, California." In addition, are all of the recording studios located in Los Angeles?
Sofital Paris Le Laubourg is in Paris, France. Aaron You Da One
  • "The song's musical structure received a comparison to Britney Spears' song "Inside Out". This is irrelevant since only one reviewer felt this way.
  • Add an "it" between "compared" and "to".
  • "Hours after the release of the video, Norwegian photographer Solve Sundsbo alleged that the scene of Rihanna wearing a white outfit with black dots shining on her is the same as a photo shoot he completed in 2008 titled "Numero 93'", and alleged that Rihanna and Matsoukas had copied his work." -> "Hours after the release of the video, Norwegian photographer Solve Sundsbo accused Rihanna and Matsoukas of plagiarism, suggesting that the scene featuring the singer wearing a white outfit with black dots was deliberately copied from his 2008 montage "Numero 93".

Recording and production
  • "including Sofital Paris Le Laubourg, Room 538; Westlake Recording Studios (Studio B), Los Angeles, California." Ouch. This needs to be reformatted.
      Done Aaron You Da One
  • "The song was engineered by Aubrey “Big Juice” Delaine and Clint Gibbs, and were assisted by Chris Sclafani and Jonathon Steer." I'm not sure what is meant by "engineered" in regards to producing a song.
It's when you put things together and engineer them. See Audio engineering. I have linked this also.
Composition
  • The flow here is a bit jagged and choppy. Sentences like ""You Da One" runs for 3 minutes and 19 seconds" and ""You da One" is a mid-tempo pop and electropop song" should be reworked to improve the flow.
  • Unless you are referring to more than one aspect of the song, "bares resemblances" is incorrect. "Bares a resemblance" would be correct in this instance.
Everything   Done Aaron You Da One
Critical reception
  • "Jocelyn Vena for MTV News commented on the sexual suggestiveness that is embodied on "You da One", writing "Rihanna channels a potty-mouthed sex kitten"" I like that you are trying to be creative with the prose, but this sentence has some awkward phrasing. Perhaps this is better, "In regards to the song's sexually lewd demeanor, Jocelyn Vena of MTV News felt that Rihanna embodied a "potty-mouthed sex kitten"."
  • "[You da] one I dream about all day", why is this italicized?
Everything   Done Aaron You Da One
North American and Canada
  • "It debuted at number 28 on the US Radio Songs chart with a first week audience impression of 28 million,[25] and peaked at number 28." I'm not liking the latter half of the sentence. How about this, "It debuted at number 28 on the US Radio Songs chart, the apex of its stay, with a first week audience impression of 28 million."
  • "It became the highest debut on the chart since Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" debuted at number six in February 2011." A bit clumsy here.
  • "On the US Pop Songs, "You da One" debuted at number 26 on November 26, 2011, and was awarded the honor of that weeks Greatest Gainer", you forgot an apostrophe in "weeks".
Everything   Done Aaron You Da One
Europe and Australasia
  • "Elsewhere in Europe, the song managed to peak inside the top twenty in Ireland at number 12; in Norway at number 16, and in Spain at number 17." What's up with the random semicolon?
  • "It peaked inside the top fifty in Austria; Switzerland; and Spain." See above.
  • "The following week, it feel by one position to number 40." I think you know what needs to be done.
Everything   Done Aaron You Da One
Background and synopsis
  • No issues.
Reception and allagations
  • Amy Sciarretto is the commentator from PopCrush.
  • The accessdate is missing in the Huffington Post citation.

That's all. On hold until the issues are resolved. —DAP388 (talk) 20:08, 19 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
