editI have cut this from the page and recommend it remain on review until the author can provide some evidence for the claims made below. There may be studies to back up the claims about the Truth campaign. If so, they should be cited in footnotes. --Littlemissfactchecker (talk) 16:47, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

editWhile there have been many advertising campaigns promoting cigarettes, there have been more recent ad campaigns advocating the anti-smoking movement. The Truth Campaign has made great advances in getting teens to reevaluate smoking. The Truth Campaign plays off of the same themes that smoking advertisements do; the campaign attempts to portray the “cool”, radical aspects of anti-smoking.
Youth smokers have been shown to smoke the most heavily advertised brands. Adolescent smokers distinguish between brands based on their packaging and report that specific packaging portrays an image and makes a certain statement. A potential method to reduce youth smoking is to work with the government on strict regulation of cigarette brand packaging. If adolescents cannot distinguish between brands, they will no longer smoke simply to make a statement.
