The result of the move request was: page moved. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 23:11, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Cha Hyun Ok → Yuri (Korean singer) — This page, under its previous name, was absoluely fine before. It followed Wikipedia naming conventions, specifically WP:COMMONNAME. However, this has recently come under debate (along with many other Korean entertainer pages). I believe the user who moved the page to Cha Hyun Ok believes that there are "too many Yuris" and therefore it's better to have the page under her birth name. However, the singer does not user her birth name at all professionally (she's not referred to it at all except for news articles that specify that her birth name was Cha Hyun Ok). Therefore, I don't know why this page should be under her birth name, when it goes against Wikipedia naming conventions. I understand that the mover clearly disagrees, but again, there is no acceptable reason given. SKS (talk) 05:31, 3 June 2010 (UTC) Support, per nom. The user who keeps moving articles on Korean entertainers has a history of making controversial moves without consensus. My preference would be that an administrator summarily revert the move and then we have a discussion at Talk:Yuri (Korean singer) about whether to move the page to Cha_Hyun_Ok. --Atemperman (talk) 19:27, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Oppose as Yuri goes by Cha Hyun Ok as well.Karry145 (talk) 14:59, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
- Comment: I understand that this is not correct. Do you have sources that back up your claim? SKS (talk) 18:11, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Oppose you don't need proof when the article clearly states Cha hyun-ok as her birth name. According to Yuri isn't the original name taken? Urgenine (talk) 20:55, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
- Comment: See WP:STAGENAME and WP:QUALIFIER. SKS (talk) 05:30, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Oppose birth name Cha Hyun-ok. 98.149.27.0 (talk) 23:01, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

- Oppose seeing as she is also called by her b-name as well as Yuri. Greg5903 (talk) 11:27, 10 June 2010 (UTC)— Greg5903 (talk • contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.
- Support- Wikipedia prefers common names and stage names to names that are elaborate, formal or overly precise. See WP:COMMONNAME for examples. --WikiDonn (talk) 23:53, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Yuri (Korean singer) → Yuri (South Korean singer) – accurate representation. Kanghuitari (talk) 03:46, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose: That seems more cumbersome and unnecessary. I doubt there is a notable North Korean singer named Yuri that this person would be confused with. —BarrelProof (talk) 06:31, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Question - I ask, and asked also at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Korea: what is WikiProject Korea's guideline on this? Dana (South Korean singer) Dia (South Korean singer) etc? In ictu oculi (talk) 13:37, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Conditional Oppose: Is there a North Korean singer called Yuri that I could potentially be confusing this person with? If anyone is able to bring to my attention such a North Korean singer, I will gladly strike my !vote. The purpose of disambiguating article titles is to, well, disambiguate. --benlisquareT•C•E 14:05, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. How will you call a Korean singer that performs in L.A.? An East Korean singer? Pldx1 (talk) 21:44, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. Seems unnecessary. The title is consistent with the naming of the Koreans article, indicating her ethnic group, not her birth country. Zzyzx11 (talk) 22:49, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. Unnecessary. "Korean" is the usual adjective for people from South Korea. -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:09, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: Procedural close. per BarrelProof we've just had this RM (non-admin closure) ...ignoring that 77.86.214.46 geolocated to Finland is almost certainly another RM sock. In ictu oculi (talk) 11:50, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
Yuri (Korean singer) → Yuri (South Korean singer) – North Korea and South Korea is a totally different country. 'South Korea' is country name, not a geographical name. see Seven (South Korean singer), Tiffany (South Korean singer), Big Bang (South Korean band), Rainbow (South Korean band). -- Kanghuitari (talk) 18:26, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Who said anything about North Korea, or even countries? This person is presumably a Korean. That said, it would be nice if we could standardize these disambiguators. Is (Korean foo) good enough if there isn't a North/South Korean topic of the same name, or should we keep to nationality either way? --BDD (talk) 22:39, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Speedy procedural close: We just closed the same move request by the same editor. Reopening it so soon is disruptive. —BarrelProof (talk) 22:44, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. A shorter disambiguator is generally better than a longer one. We also want a disambiguator that uses words that are likely to pop into a reader's mind when he thinks about this subject. So coming up with a good disambiguator isn't necessarily about geography, politics, or countries. Way more readers are looking for a "Korean singer" than for a "South Korean singer."[1] After all, the subject sings "K-pop", not "SK-pop." 77.86.214.46 (talk) 10:22, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. Mainly for the preceding reasons. Answering to the specific 'move 3' argument: North Korea and South Korea is a country, even if today torn apart by an internal border. Let a chance to hope. Pldx1 (talk) 11:43, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
