Schlippenbach family is less Swedish than German
editI added a link to the Schlippenbach noble family article and omitted "Swedish", because the S. family is rather German than Swedish. Yes, the S. family has a Swedish branch, but Wolmar Anton von Schlippenbach apparently represents its Baltic-German branch (he was born in Livonia). The Swedish or Baltic-German branches of the family are not essential in this Yuri Kondratyuk article, because the career of Wolmar von Schlippenbach in the service of the Swedish and Russian armies are mentioned, and there is a link to Wolmar Anton von Schlippenbach article. - Question to user @Peaceray : why did you revert my changes? The statement “Ukrainian engineer” 1) is not true since he was not Ukrainian neither ethnically (by origin), neither by nationality/citizenship (for obvious reasons). 2) this statement does not agree neither with articles other languages (particularly, with the Russian one) nor with the English article itself, where in biography section his origin is clearly described (and in general apart from this part the English article follows the Russian one).
- My changes make intro and article as a whole more adequate and coherent Aluatar (talk) 16:50, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Aluatar: I am puzzled why you posted this question here as I listed my reasoning in the edit summary & on your talk page. But since you posted your question here, I will reiterate & elucidate.
- As I wrote on your talk page,
I reverted your edit as per MOS:ETHNICITY. Please note that English Wikipedia guidelines may differ from Russian Wikipedia.
- MOS:ETHNICITY states:
Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless relevant to the subject's notability.
I should think that your edit insertingof jewish and swedish origin
would be a violation of that guideline by including the ethnicity in the lead. Furthermore, you removed Ukrainian from the text. This also goes against MOS:ETHNICITY:
The opening paragraph should usually provide context for the activities that made the person notable. In most modern-day cases, this will be the country, region, or territory, where the person is currently a citizen, national, or permanent resident; or, if the person is notable mainly for past events, where the person was a citizen, national, or permanent resident when the person became notable.
- I believe that Ukraine would have been the region or territory of the Russian Empire & then the USSR where Kondratyuk spent most of his life. Peaceray (talk) 17:27, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
