User:Donald Albury, I hope I haven't stepped on your toes with my recent merger of content from my user space. However I felt we ought to do it now before the page develops further. Please double check my use of your citations; I did as best I could but I don't have access to those works. This had been something I was working on three years ago, but I never completed the section on the later 17th-century developments.
