Retirement
AFAIR he continued to play in Spain after the last WC. 67.180.103.107 (talk) 17:21, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
- Wrong. He retired from club football in '06, and his last game was the '06 World Cup final. The "dubious" tag you incorrectly placed in his article has thus been removed. sixtynine • spill it • 23:25, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Accents
Hey, I just want to know if its spelt Zinedine or Zinédine. I have heard his name spelt as either one of those and I'm not sure which one is right. Just wondering if his name should be Zinedine or Zinédine, with the accent. Thanks.
user talk:Bort08 01:20, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
With the accent. Most French newspapers, including Le Monde, adopt the accent. Zidane's own official web site doesn't though. Hope this helps. Veinofstars (talk) 04:25, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
he must be mentioned as great player!!!!
for god sake i just added a section stating he was the greatest european player of the last 50 years due to a uefa poll and why is it being deleted!!!!!!! i had the section referenced from the 'guardian online' for cripe sakes, is that not official enough for you lot!!!!!!! i might as well delete the sentences saying pele is considered the greatest player as there is not enough sufficient evidence to say he is!!!! i just got an official article from a renowned news agency and it got deleted!!! what is wrong with you lot! http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2004/apr/23/newsstory.sport5 - —Preceding unsigned comment added by Doddinator1991(talk • contribs) 17:54, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Smoking
According to Wall Street Journal Zidane smokes: [1]. I think this is an interesting detail of his biography, and should be included in the article. Offliner (talk) 12:31, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
I doubt he's a regular smoker. I have seen tousands of pictures and he has only ever been seen smoking once, during the 2006 World Cup. Also I don't think this is important enough to be included. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.54.79.39 (talk) 11:15, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Playing style
I think more space should be devoted to his playing style, positions, strengths and weaknesses, rather than to his personal life and achievements. This is perhaps true for most footballers on Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.216.104.83 (talk) 21:24, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Arabic transliteration of name
Zidane has no ethnic or linguistic connection to Arabs. What is the justification for including an Arabic transliteration of his name? Karpouzi (talk) 15:53, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
- I thought that Zidane's name should be mentioned in the Arabic version after his name in French for many reasons. 1, that his name originated from the Arabic language, and has a strong meaning. 2, his country of origin in Algeria, an Arabic speaking country, as well as his knowledge of the Arabic language.--85.154.163.215 (talk) 16:25, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
- There are countless Wikipedia entries for people whose names have some meaning in or derivation from another language, for example Hebrew. Algeria is a multiethnic country, Zidane is a Frenchman who speaks French, and his parents are ethnic Kabyles who speak the Kabyle language. Karpouzi (talk) 09:22, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
- My dear Karpouzi, surely that would also make Zidane a Kabyle himself? Or are we working on your faulty logic here? The Arabic transliteration should stay on his page, seeing as his name is from the arabic language as i am sure his parents intended. Or perhaps you know better than them? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.17.122.202 (talk) 11:57, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- It does not matter what you think you "are sure his parents intended". Find a reliable source which shows the connection, otherwise there is no justification for it being there, which is why it is not on any other language version of this article. Karpouzi (talk) 16:55, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
Zidane-Materazzi incident
It's not clear if Materazzi verbally taunted Zidane in the final match. So, I think this part of the article should be corrected (actually there are no references about it). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.144.71.49 (talk) 23:02, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
- It is clear. I will add the source from ESPN wherein Materazzi admits he insulted him verbally. Cocytus [»talk«] 23:10, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
- Done. In the article, Materazzi says he did insult him, but didn't say anything about his mother or about terrorism (or any of the other rumored slurs), but he does admit that he said something, he just didn't specify which particular insult. Best, Cocytus [»talk«] 23:16, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
- Should there be mention of the internet memes that followed the head butting accident? —Preceding unsigned comment added by TruthShallStand (talk • contribs) 22:51, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2007/aug/18/newsstory.sport2 Not sure if it's true, but apparantly that's what he said. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.210.56.148 (talk) 05:51, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Assists statistics
Creativity and assists were a big part of Zidane's game, and I have all the stats ready at hand courtesy of ESPN soccernet. May I add them to his career statistics table? Renoog (talk) 06:37, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Julian Harjono?!
Some one has obviously been playing around with this...
The article states his name is Julian Harjono, he is 13 years old, he was born in Indonesia, he played for Toronto FC, and that he played for the Canada national football team.
Someone want to fix this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.31.226.125 (talk) 00:03, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Vandalism?
Seems like some ones messing with this article. Zidane never played in Canada for FC Toronto or for Barcelona like the article says. Some one please look over the article and see if there are any more errors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.157.196.118 (talk) 03:52, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
He also isnt 13 :S —Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.157.196.118 (talk) 03:54, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
I just noted some more vandalism - see his personal life and mention of his sons names. Some silliness follows. I have not edited it out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.154.120.85 (talk) 20:45, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
Biography By Years
Why was "Biography by years" deleted??
I think it summarizes his biography very well!! any violation?????? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Beretta f-92 (talk • contribs) 18:23, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Wrong statistics
I noted that the columns about Zidane's presences & goals in the national cups contain wrong values, because these last one are referred instead to Zidane's presences & goals with the French national team (just consider, for example, that Juventus in the 1996-97 Coppa Italia played only 4 matches, so it's impossible that he played 9 games in that competition!). I don't know what is the standard procedure adopted here to compile the statistics table, so I need an expert who could correct it. You can find the right values on the French Wikipedia. Thank you. --Mess (talk) 12:41, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
The statistics are also incorrect about his number of played matches in Juventus in "the infobox" in the websites upper right corner. The number only count leauge matches, but his Real Madrids stats just below counts all matches. Compare with his statistics in the bottom of his wikisite. - Swedish Magpie. 3 april, 2013 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.195.59.93 (talk) 21:43, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Enzo the Spaniard (?)
His son Enzo is seen as legible for the National Team of Spain. By what capacity is Enzo a National of Spain?--82.134.28.194 (talk) 12:21, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- His mother is a Spanish national (French national, as well) and he was raised in the country. — Joao10Siamun (talk) 14:44, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Greatest player not NPOV
I am not a football fan (prehaps good for the purpose of this observation). I have NEVER heard of this guy. I know Maridona, Owens, Beckman, Renado, and obviously Pele that (cant spell their names). So my own test shows even not liking football i know these names. I dont know his. So how in the lead is he "considered greatest?" you can find 30 more sources that say Pele was the greatest. Hence unless a serious majority should not be mentioned under peacock policy. Even a causual search comes up with Him at no 10--Halqh حَلَقَة הלכהሐላቃህ (talk) 07:46, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
non-practicing Muslim
I think you can not be muslim if you are not practicing it. So i think it should be removed from the article. 113.203.176.57 (talk) 17:29, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- No you can be. It means you believe in Islam but you don't practise it (namely pray, fast, observe the rules, etc.). TonyStarks (talk) 21:05, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
un-needed detail in intro
within brackets in the introduction, it is put in high detail about the other male and female players with three or more World Player of the Year awards, which sort of detracts from it being an introduction to Zidane, although it would be necessary just to mention Ronaldo in it, as he was the only male one to do so and was also a previous team mate of Zidane. I can remember on the Diego Forlán article they put tons of detail into how he didn't win the Golden Boot at the 2010 World Cup in the intro and it took up lots of lines.
