Talk:Znamya (satellite)

Latest comment: 2 years ago by OnDragi in topic Speed of the mirror

Apparently 5 kilometers is not the minimum spot size for a 20 meter mirror at a range of perhaps 300 kilometers, since the 25 meter mirror was expected to produce a 7 kilometer spot and be several times brighter than the moon. The increased brightness per square kilometer likely resulted from a smoother surface and/or higher reflectivity, but a more favorable angle to the Sun possibly helped a bit. Can anyone clarify? I think this has potential to increase the power output of solar power sites on Earth's surface.Ccpoodle 02:34, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speed of the mirror

edit

The Znamya 2 paragraph says the speed of the light disk was 8 km/h, which is also what the referred source says, but I think it should be 8 km/s, which matches orbital velocities and would make sense with the description of the observers that they have seen a "flash". One source that says 8 km/s is the following: https://www.spacelegalissues.com/space-law-znamya-the-space-mirror/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by OnDragi (talkcontribs) 22:03, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
