editAs far as I can find, Zonophone lable has not been in use since the 1980s. Anyone seen anything more recent? Wondering simply, Infrogmation 22:40 30 May 2003 (UTC)
Longevity
edit"When HMV and Columbia(UK) merged to form Electrical and Musical Industries, Ltd. (EMI), the lower-priced labels of the two firms were merged also as Regal Zonophone, which continued until c. 1949."
This suggests that the Regal Zonophone brand name has not been used since 1949, which is plainly not the case at all.
As implied by the Regal Zonophone article, EMI used the Regal Zonophone name continuously from the 1930s until at least the 1970s, and then resurrected the marque again in the 1990s. 217.155.20.163 00:42, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
This article also states that Victor retired the Zonophone brand in the US in 1910, but that plainly isn't true judging by the label image on the article page, which includes (within the rather extensive copyright blurb around the edge of the label) a date of May 1, 1911. 217.155.20.163 00:59, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
Clarification needed?
editThere is the term about "Illegal recordings" - should these just mean Illegal Records - i am not sure what it could mean at all. Any help? --Alexander.stohr (talk) 22:10, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Divide
editThere is an argument for dividing U.S. Zonophone aka Universal Talking Machine and Zonophone in Europe, i.e. International Zonophone Company. While they share a common origin, they are very different companies with different histories, catalogs and lines of succession. Also, there are numerous inaccuracies in this article, which is largely taken verbatim from an unreliable source. For the moment, I don't have the opportunity to point out the various missteps in the piece, but it may be better altogether to start this over.Pinikadia 18:14, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

- Also agree. The American branch was bought by Victor in 1903 and folded in 1912. Its assets are owned by Sony. The European branch was part of EMI and the label was used around the world by their subsidiaries until much later. The preface to the authoritative US Zonophone discographies are now online in DAHR and has the US history.
