Usage
editThis template uses the {{tree list}}
template to build an ancestry tree using Ahnentafel numbering. Currently, it will create a tree down to 511 Ahnentafel places. However, it can be filled out to any arbitrary number. To do this, add:
{{Ahnentafel-tree
|r_1=''subject''
|r_2=''father''
|r_3=''mother''
|r_4=''paternal father''
...
|r_7=''maternal grand mother''
...
|r_511=''6th great-grandmother'' (generation 9)
}}
For compatability with {{Ahnentafel}}
, r_1 ... r_511
can be substituted with unnamed parameters: 1 ... 511
{{Ahnentafel-tree
|1=''subject''
|2=''father''
|...
- — or —
{{Ahnentafel-tree
|''subject''
|''father''
|...
If you only wanted to display down to the level of parents, then this will suffice:
{{Ahnentafel-tree
|title=Parents of subject
|color_1=translucent
|color_2=translucenti
|r_1=''subject''
|r_2=''father''
|r_3=''mother''
}}
and the rest of the tree will not be displayed:
1. subject
- 2. father
-
- 3. mother
-
- 2. father
If the male of a couple is given without the female, then a blank will be inserted as a placeholder for the female; and likewise, for a missing male, when only the female is given. This is to keep the tree properly lined up, having the correct indentation.
If neither male nor female are added, the couple will not appear.
The template is not idiot-proof; if you do not add a couple, but do add their ancestors, you will probably break the layout of the tree. Instead, leave them "blank" by typing dashes as placeholders whenever you have no information about a given person, but you do have info on that person's ancestors. (This can sometimes happen for wives; eg, "a daughter of Lord such and such".)
Note: There seems to be a bug in the underlying software, and the link from subject to mother breaks the tree graphic when there are more than about 6 generations (something to do with the flat number of entries, rather than the depth in generations).

Sub templates
edit- {{Ahnentafel-tree/main|...}} — main template for Ahnentafel-tree this allows default values to be set for parameters (such as colours) then to be used within the sub template.
- {{Ahnentafel-tree/bc|colour|text}} — for background colour
- {{Ahnentafel-tree/couple}} — see {{Ahnentafel-tree/couple/doc}} for a description of the six unnamed parameters.
