This is the template test cases page for the sandbox of Template:Arbcom notice. to update the examples. If there are many examples of a complicated template, later ones may break due to limits in MediaWiki; see the HTML comment "NewPP limit report" in the rendered page. You can also use Special:ExpandTemplates to examine the results of template uses. You can test how this page looks in the different skins and parsers with these links: |
Currently {{subst:Arbcom notice}}
substitutes a single message tailored for persons "involved" in the case being requested. The sandbox modification allows use of additional parameters so that the notification can address persons who are not "involved", but have been tangentially mentioned instead. The notification extends beyond the request phase; being usable for open cases, requests for clarification, and requests for amendments as well. A demonstration follows:
Main template
editThe template currently uses a single configuration. Its syntax is shown where instructions are shown that mention the requirements of notification. The instructions intend that the user copy-pastes the syntax on user talkpages where notification is needed. Currently, the single configuration is:
{{subst:arbcom notice|section name}} ~~~~
Saving it substitutes this message:
You are involved in a recently filed request for arbitration. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case#section name and, if you wish to do so, enter your statement and any other material you wish to submit to the Arbitration Committee. Additionally, the following resources may be of use—
Thanks, (the posting user's 4-tilde signature ends up here)
Currently needed copyedit
editIf no additional functionality was needed from this template, it would require the following copyedit anyway; in my opinion:
- The message begins as: "You are involved in a recently filed request for arbitration.", which appears more like an accusation than a notification. This will become, "Hello User Name, you have been listed as an involved party in a recently filed request for arbitration."
- The emdash after "may be of use—" is misplaced. This will become the more correct colon instead.
- Terminal punctuation is not used with bullet list-items, they are therefor removed.
- "Thanks," is an ill-advised salutation; it will become "Thank you for the attention you have given this matter."
- After clean-up for readability and cohesion, the default notification becomes:
