This is the template sandbox page for Template:Books and Writers (diff). See also the companion subpage for test cases. |
Template for linking to the Books and Writers (kirjasto.sci.fi or Authors' Calendar) website.
Usage
editThe template takes two parameters, the ID of the author and the author's name.
{{Books and Writers|id=author ID|name=author name}}
The author name is optional the module will use the article title. However consider locking in your desired name in case the article is renamed for dab purposes.
The ID can be found by going to the index page and hover over the author's link and look for the "name.htm" in the URL. The "name" without the ".htm" is the ID.
For example Isaac Asimov has a link of "asimov.htm" thus an ID of "asimov:
{{Books and Writers|id=asimov|name=Isaac Asimov}}
- produces:
- Petri Liukkonen. "Isaac Asimov". Books and Writers.
As an inline citation
editThe template is not designed as a citation template, rather an external link template -- for example in external links sub-sections, or talk pages, or in sections below the references subsection.
For inline citations use a citation template such as {{cite web}}. For example:
{{cite web |url=http://authorscalendar.info/asimov.htm |title=Issac Asimov |website=Books and Writers |first=Petri |last=Liukkonen |publisher=[[Kuusankoski]] Public Library |location=Finland }}
Feel free to copy and paste this into the article.
Notes
edit- Books and Writers website went offline around March 2015. The template originally linked to the Wayback Machine version of kirjasto.sci.fi -- but after that went offline due to robots.txt the site was moved to GitHub Pages. If for some reason that also becomes unavailable, the entire Books and Writers website has been archived (licensed Creative Commons) and can be found here as a zip file. If for some reason that also becomes unavailable it can be found here. Individual pages in the greencardamom.github.io/BooksAndWriters/* tree are also available on the Wayback Machine. In 2017, it was discovered the site was actually moved in 2015 (not taken offline) to a different domain http://authorscalendar.info/indeksi.htm and the template was updated accordingly.
