Usage
editThis template indicates that an article cites the first edition Cyclopædia, or an Universal Dictionary of Arts and Sciences, which is now in the public domain.

editThe template can be placed in different locations and depending on the what it is required the parameters can be mixed and matched:

editIn its default mode this template cites first edition of the Cyclopædia, or an Universal Dictionary of Arts and Sciences.
This template automatically sets some of the parameters for example "publisher = James and John Knapton, et al". Over and above the standard parameter passed into {{cite encyclopedia}} there are some additional parameters and those are listed below in a separate table from the table of parameters passed into {{cite encyclopedia}}.

Maintenance categories
editThis template places all articles transcluding it to the Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating a citation from the 1728 Cyclopaedia
It also includes two sub-categories:
- hidden category Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from Cyclopaedia for any article that transcluds it with the parameter vb=1 is set.
- Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating a citation from the 1728 Cyclopaedia without an article title parameter for any article that transcluds it with no title=article name set.
