The cladogram is taken from Crane, P.R.; Herendeen, P. & Friis, E.M. (2004), "Fossils and plant phylogeny", American Journal of Botany, 91 (10): 1683–99, doi:10.3732/ajb.91.10.1683, PMID 21652317. To reduce the size of the diagram, a number of 'basal' or 'stem' groups have been combined into paraphyletic 'basal groups'. In their diagram, the vertical line marked "euphyllophytes" appears to include Cooksonia caledonica and C. pertoni. However, this is inconsistent with Kenrick & Crane (1997) and is now treated here as a mistake.
Usage
editThere are five related templates:
{{Clade polysporangiophyte|tracheophytes=collapsed|panlycophytes=collapsed|lycophytes=collapsed|euphyllophytes=collapsed}}
- Produces a cladogram for the polysporangiophytes. The four parameters are optional. If, for example, "tracheophytes=collapsed" is omitted, the full tracheophytes subtree will be shown. If it is present, the subtree for the tracheophytes will be reduced to a single label. Any value other than "collapsed" will cause the relevant subtree to be shown.
{{Clade tracheophyte|panlycophytes=collapsed|lycophytes=collapsed|euphyllophytes=collapsed}}
- Produces a cladogram for the tracheophytes. The three parameters are optional. Omitting a parameter or giving it any value other than "collapsed" will cause the relevant subtree to be shown.
{{Clade panlycophyte|lycophytes=collapsed}}
- Produces a cladogram for the 'pan-lycophytes' i.e. the lycophytes and their stem group(s). The two parameters are optional. Omitting a parameter or giving it any value other than "collapsed" will cause the relevant subtree to be shown.
{{Clade lycophyte}}
- Produces a cladogram for the lycophytes.
- Produces a cladogram for the euphyllophytes.
Each template causes the clade to be shown without a stem and a label. To display one of the clades it would normally be embedded in an outer clade template, e.g.
{{clade|label1=lycophytes|1={{Clade lycophyte}}}}
