"Welcome to the LBJ Ranch!"
... that painter Frank Frazetta created political caricatures for the 1965 comedy album "Welcome to the LBJ Ranch!"?Album back cover credits Frazetta for artwork, and his signature is in the image.
- ALT1:
... that a greeting spoken by Lady Bird Johnson (pictured) was taken out of context for the title of the 1965 comedy album "Welcome to the LBJ Ranch!"?UPI piece by William Laffler explains the quote.

Currently fails supplementary guideline A2: "It includes only 'readable prose'; it does not include the table of contents, section headers ..." This can easily be fixed by adding further headings.Otherwise, the article is new enough, long enough, well-written and has appropriate citations. Earwig finds no copyvio or unduly close paraphrasing. Both hooks are short enough and interesting. Alt 1 is accurate and supported by inline citation. Alt 0 is based on offline text from the album's back cover, and that source is accepted in good faith from an established editor. QPQ present. Cbl62 (talk) 05:37, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- That A2 rule is talking about how to count 1,500 characters. The "readable prose" character count does not include TOC, headers, etc. Binksternet (talk) 19:22, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- You are quite right. It's been some years since I was active in DYK and recalled that at some point a rule had been proposed (by User:Gatoclass I think) declining DYK eligibility for articles that consisted of a single flow of narrative without headings. The rule I pointed to is clearly not that. My apologies (though I do still think the narrative would benefit from some headings). Cbl62 (talk) 16:22, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, I came by to promote this, but I honestly had trouble following the flow of the article (there is none). The lead is too long and the presentation does not flow smoothly at all. Yoninah (talk) 19:02, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
- I did not intend to change the article from its original form, which was purposely composed as one section of prose in four paragraphs. The sources are too limited to consider expansion. I am not a fan of the new section style, which makes it appear choppy. If it doesn't meet your standards, I'm fine with that. Binksternet (talk) 19:16, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
- D13 is also a rule. While everything is properly cited, it is just a mishmash of facts. Yoninah (talk) 19:19, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

- @Binksternet: LBJ Ranch was one of the great comedy albums of the 60s and it is worthy of a Main Page mention. (I recall fondly listening to it, and The First Family, as a kid.) Rather than withdrawing the DYK, why not try to beef it up a bit? SL93 has provided another source, and I'd be willing to chip in as well if you'd like. Cbl62 (talk) 19:47, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
- Okay, I won't throw in the towel. I might insert something from the newspaper source suggested by SL93. It says 36 miles of tape was collected, close to the 35 miles of tape I saw in another source. Ridiculous amount of material! At 15 inches per second (a typical reel-to-reel speed in 1965) it would take a week to listen to all of it. Binksternet (talk) 20:07, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

... that the 1965 comedy album "Welcome to the LBJ Ranch!" was prepared under the sometimes tipsy eye of a kinkajou?Earl Wilson (columnist) wrote,[3] "Earle Doud... keeps a kinkajou in his house in the E. 60s and feeds it liquor. Doud's partner Alen Robin calls it 'the Dean Martin of the jungle.' "

... that Nelson Rockefeller (pictured) gave his wife the states of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut as a wedding anniversary gift, according to the 1965 comedy album "Welcome to the LBJ Ranch!"?Harvey Pack wrote about the Rockefeller comedy bit.- A bunch of expansion with sources from Cbl62 and more... I have revved up ALT1 by supplying a possible photo and tweaking the wording. There's also ALT2 and ALT3 with no picture. (I think a photo of a kinkajou in the album article would put too much weight on this peripheral and somewhat alarming fact, considering modern aversion to mistreatment of pets. Nelson Rockefeller could be pictured if I add his mug to the article.) Binksternet (talk) 20:20, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you, the article really looks good now. Of all the hooks, I think ALT3 expresses the humor of the album best. ALT3 hook ref is verified and cited inline. Would you like to add an image? Would you like to give Cbl62 a co-creator credit? Yoninah (talk) 20:53, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
- No need for that. All I did was dig up a couple articles. Nice work Binksternet. Cbl62 (talk) 21:43, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
- Here's a photo of Nelson Rockefeller. Alt text and photo in article. Binksternet (talk) 22:25, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Binksternet: Thanks. I'm just wondering if the ALT3 hook could be tweaked a little more to convey that he's saying it, but not for real? Here's an attempt:
- ALT4: ... that on the 1965 comedy album "Welcome to the LBJ Ranch!", Nelson Rockefeller (pictured) is heard saying he gave his wife the states of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut as a wedding anniversary gift? Yoninah (talk) 22:53, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, good solution with ALT4. Cbl62, you want to call it? Binksternet (talk) 22:55, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
