1920 Alabama Crimson Tide football team

edit

5x expanded by Patriarca12 (talk). Self nominated at 03:23, 18 December 2013 (UTC).

:* Date, length, and hook check out. --Hirolovesswords (talk) 03:30, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

This hook was pulled from Queue 4 as it failed the 5X expansion as per discussion at DYKtalk Victuallers (talk) 20:16, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
Changed your template: {{DYKno}} means there's no real chance of a successful nomination. Patriarca, while some more expansion is necessary, it's definitely quite possible for your article to make it to DYK. According to comments by someone else, your expansion took the article from 1908 characters to 8725; if you can get 815 more characters of good text into the article, we'll be able to promote it. Sorry about this as I thought I had it, but was clearly way off in the expansion count. I'll get this resolved in the next day or so either through some additional expansion or formal withdrawal of the nomination. Patriarca12 (talk) 03:01, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
I have added an additional 1,311 characters through some additional expansion, and this should be good to go now. Again, I do apologize for the inconvenience this caused. Patriarca12 (talk) 04:13, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Hi Pat, I'm too busy to look at this now, but I thought Id assure you that you shouldn't feel bad about it falling short. I think it was a failure of our process - we assume good faith - an we will continue to do so. I do hope to see your article on the front page. Victuallers (talk) 10:22, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Pre-expansion size: 1908 characters (0 words) "readable prose size" 1908 x 5 = 9540. Current size: 10312 characters (0 words) "readable prose size", so your additions brought it up to 5X. Just so you know, the DYK Check ( see upper right hand DYK Toolbox) is how the characters of readable prose are counted. It only counts prose - no lists, no images, no quotes, nothing in boxes. — Maile (talk) 14:37, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
- I think everyones fine with this. It is well referenced. I would tick this but I don't understand "homecoming" or Football so I have no idea what the hook might mean and whether its interesting. If someone trusts the reviews then they merely have to tick the hook. Thanks for persevering. Victuallers (talk) 15:35, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
A home game is played on a team's own turf, as opposed to being the visiting team playing at another team's stadium. And a homecoming game is the one generally played at the end, after they've been out playing the season hither and yon - and it's a big, big deal with celebrations and whatnot. However, I think some clarification is needed for those who don't understand American football and terminology. The Crimson Tide is the team for the University of Alabama. Generally speaking, sports reports will say something like, "...today Alabama played..." and sports fans know they mean the Crimson Tide, not any other football team, on any level, in the state of Alabama. That is probably how it is meant in this article, but it can be confusing as written when it says "This also marked the first homecoming game played in the history of Alabama football." That sentence could be taken either way - no other school's football team in the entire state of Alabama ever had a homecoming game before - or, the U of Alabama never had a homecoming game before. — Maile (talk) 16:02, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
— Maile , thanks for taking the time for the explanation of homecoming. I clarified the statement in the section to read "This also marked the first time the football team played a homecoming game at the University of Alabama." I hope this does the trick, but if not, please let me know. Patriarca12 (talk) 18:42, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
Good 2 go. I'm satisfied with the hook and its references. I also ran the copyvio check, and no issues were detected. — Maile (talk) 22:51, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
