1930s Polish Andean expeditions
- ... that the 1930s Polish Andean expeditions have been credited with several first ascents and tracing a new route to Andes' highest peak? - Article is new enough (created 8/22), long enough (> 6,000 characters of narrative text), and a good piece of work. Earwig detected no issues. Hook is interesting. The "first ascents" part of the hook is sourced to a Polish language source as to which AGF applies. However, the article refers to the ascent of Mercedario as "the first documented ascent" -- it would probably be best if the hook is modified to use this language as well. The "new route" part of the hook is also sourced to a Polish language source, as to which AGF applies. It is also based on source 5 (Centro Cultural Argentino de Montaña) which registers as a "Not Found" error -- this should be fixed before advancing to the main page. QPQ done. Once these two small issues are cleared, this will be good to go. Cbl62 (talk) 00:07, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
- Cbl62, Documented is arguably not necessary; it was my brain shortcut for implying that others, most likely natives of the region, likely climbed this mountain at some point. A lot of first ascents are 'Western exploration firsts', I think. This word can be removed if anyone has an issue. Ref 5 has been fixed. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:04, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- Piotrus Thanks for fixing the "Not Found" error. On the other issue, your brain shortcut is almost certainly correct, as it is highly likely that locals climbed the peaks before these European did so in the 1930s. What is the wording used by the sources? Could you provide a translation? Cbl62 (talk) 17:51, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- Cbl62, The sources use just the first ascent or like, nothing special. We can remove the 'documented' as it is, sadly, not a clarification supported by the sources, and arguably this is something to be discussed in first ascent article (where I do not think it is, which suggests some Western-centrism or such there, perhaps to be tagged...). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:24, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
- Good faith assumed from established user on foreign language sources. Good to go. Cbl62 (talk) 03:42, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
