A Surge of Power (Jen Reid) 2020
[[File:|140px|A Surge of Power (Jen Reid) 2020 on 15 July 2020 ]]
... that Jen Reid thought of enslaved people when she spontaneously raised her arm in a Black Power salute?Source: "When I was stood there on the plinth, and raised my arm in a Black Power salute, it was totally spontaneous, I didn't even think about it," she said. "It was like an electrical charge of power was running through me. My immediate thoughts were for the enslaved people who died at the hands of Colston and to give them power" Dezeen Marc Quinn replaces statue of slaver Edward Colston with Black Lives Matter protestor, 15 July 2020

- Wow, what a story, and what great collaboration! Thank you, all. Good sources, providing different views, no copyvio obvious. The image - even if not deleted - will not work in stamp size, because you can't see that this a most unusual sculpture. The current hook sadly doesn't show that either. Please think about alternatives. I believe the full title should show as the bold subject. The present long pipe is eye-catching, but gives no time, no hint at where and in what context, doesn't even say it's about a sculpture, - try at least some, please. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:10, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

- ALT1:
... that when Jen Reid saw this plinth (pictured) of the toppled slaver's statue in Bristol she created A Surge of Power?
- A suggested Alt - I'd actually like the hook to say - DYK that when the mayor asked for money from "the artist", he ignored the woman who had co-created the work? sadly thats POV. This hook features an uncontentious pic. Victuallers (talk) 09:04, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for the offer. It relies heavily on the image taken with the hook, which only 1 of 8 does. How is this?
- ALT1a:
... that when Jen Reid saw the plinth of the toppled statue of a slaver (pictured) in Bristol, she created A Surge of Power? - Problem: we don't get to know that she made a gesture, and what was created by someone else was a statue. Perhaps try harder? I'd use the complete title, because I think it saves many words, having her name and a year. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:48, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review, I agree the current pic doesn't illustrate the statue well at 100px. I'll try to suggest some alts now. Mujinga (talk) 10:39, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

... that a Black Power salute inspired a new statue in Bristol? - ALT3
... that a Black Power salute inspired a new statue last month in Bristol? - ALT4 ... that the statue A Surge of Power (Jen Reid) 2020 was inspired by a raised fist at a Black Lives Matter protest?

- ALT4 is fine by me, thank you. I could do without the link to raised fist, to focus on Black Lives Matter. I removed the clutter of same ref 3 times as bare long url, sorry. Once the review was done you can assume that I read it already. I'm open to other hook suggestions, if someone objects, but think this is elegant and to the point. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:45, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- I was going to promote this, but the last part of the Reactions section is unreferenced. SL93 (talk) 22:36, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

- @Mujinga: Thanks. I plan on promoting it to one of the next available image slots. SL93 (talk) 23:01, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
- Nice but how when the approved ALT4 has no image? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:06, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Sorry for missing that. Four young kids are here and they won't shut up. SL93 (talk) 23:10, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
- No problem, I was just wondering if the review was unclear. It can probably be promoted sooner without pic. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:13, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

- Not sure if I'm too late here but George Floyd protests in the United Kingdom would be a better target for the "Black Lives Matter protest" link (or could be wikilinked from "protest". --LukeSurl t c 13:22, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- You are not too late, but should not post below the line that says "Please do not write below this line" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:25, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
