Air Balloon (pub)
- ... that the Air Balloon pub in Gloucestershire is believed to have been named after pioneering British hot air balloon flights? Source: "The pub probably takes its name from the pioneering balloon flights that took place on the Cotswold Escarpments in 1784, just a year after the Montgolfier brothers". North Cotswold Pubs Though Time Amberley, 2012, p.14

I don’t think traffic is a particularly good hook, though it’s what makes the pub well known. Although I’ve stopped here several times, and driven round the junction even more, I didn’t know about the name, so that seemed the ideal hook. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:03, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
- Maybe mention that it is 235 years old: Ceoil (talk) 19:13, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Ritchie333: - I am suggesting writing about the traffic because it would be the kind of hook that might pull a reader in: "why would an air balloon cause road accidents???". Saying A is named after B is a perfectly passable hook, but it's not exactly clickbait. Mr.choppers | ✎ 01:26, 29 October 2019 (UTC)
- Ah right. I'm just going to push the "In case of witty hook please call EEng here" button and see what happens. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:32, 29 October 2019 (UTC)
- Ha, that is a rather annoying page. Not entirely what I am going for, just trying to create something along these lines. Anyhow, any other editor can choose (or propose an ALT2. It meets the requirements. Mr.choppers | ✎ 02:17, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- Ahem... What page is rather annoying? EEng 06:06, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- How about
- ALT2 ... that the Balloon went up in 1784?
- EEng 06:06, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- or maybe some combination like
- —David Eppstein (talk) 22:19, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- @David Eppstein: I love them all. Especially ALT5 which contains three witticisms on the same brilliant theme. I deleted "Could be more interesting - I find the traffic issues a good source of hook material. How about ALT0 "...that tearing down the Air Balloon should minimize road accidents"? (already sourced etc)." from the DYK Checklist template at the top of the page in the hope of removing any obstacles to moving the process along. Mr.choppers | ✎ 01:17, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- ALT5 is EEng-approved. Last slot, obviously. EEng 02:12, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
