Ancyronyx
edit- ... that spider water beetles (pictured) can only breathe in moderate to fast-moving bodies of water?
- Reviewed: Tatuidris
- Comment: Note that I had written the article as a userspace draft in August 22. However, I didn't try to move it to mainspace until today (Sept. 15, since I planned to nominate this for DYK and I didn't have time for the required QPQ reviews until now). In the intervening days, an article on the same subject was written in mainspace by User:Chhandama on August 27. I do not know if he was aware of my draft, but I certainly wasn't aware of what he had written until I received a conflict error when I tried to move my draft. My version had more or less the same information, but was longer and more complete, so I overwrote what he had already written. This means, however, that the current article is now an "expansion" rather than a new article I had originally intended. I think it also falls slightly short of the 5x requirement for that (it's around 4x currently, AFAIK). However I had dedicated too much time writing this, gathering the sources, and the pictures, to let it go to waste, so I ask for lenience from the reviewer as the current situation was beyond my (and presumably User:Chhandama's) control. The hook is primarily sourced from the 2012 Zootaxa paper by Freitag (which is behind paywall). To make it easier for the reviewer, the quote pertaining to the hook is: "All Ancyronyx species require permanent running water with moderate to fast current due to their plastron respiration."
Created/expanded by Obsidian Soul (talk), Chhandama (talk). Nominated by Obsidian Soul (talk) at 08:45, 15 September 2013 (UTC).
- After reading Obsidian Soul's comment above and verifying the account of events, I believe it's reasonable to invoke WP:IAR to pass the nomination. It's a nicely-crafted article, well-referenced, and long enough. The image license is fine. QPQ is done. Hook fact is supported by inline reference (behind paywall, so AGF). Good to go. -Zanhe (talk) 04:47, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
