Andy Morales
edit... that Cuban professional baseball player Andy Morales was caught and returned to Cuba on his first defection attempt?
- Reviewed: Second of two QPQs claimed from Template:Did you know nominations/Erik Johannessen (footballer)
- Comment: Slightly tardy with this nomination, but it was a new article over 1500 characters within 5 days

- This article is long enough and has a well-referenced hook fact. I am using my discretion to allow the nomination despite it being made two days late. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:25, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- Personally, I find the hook a bit dull. And I also wonder what happened to Morales after 2002, as the article seems to end there. Yoninah (talk) 19:05, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- I grant you that it's not the most interesting hook in the history of DYK. Maybe there's a better one I haven't thought of. His career basically ended after 2002, so I haven't found anything on him in the past decade. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:59, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- I've been looking, and I also can't find anything about him after 2002. But these alts jump out at me:
- ALT1:
... that after defecting to the United States, Cuban baseball player Andy Morales signed a four-year, $4.5 million contract with the New York Yankees? - ALT2: ... that after being caught at sea trying to defect, Cuban baseball player Andy Morales wasn't asked to participate in the 2000 Summer Olympics, lest he try to defect again? Yoninah (talk) 20:30, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- Length, history and reference verified for ALT2. Daniel Case (talk) 22:25, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
