Awapoto River
- ... that the Hadfield Clearing adjacent to the Awapoto River was the last significant block of land to be incorporated into New Zealand's Abel Tasman National Park? Source: In November 2006, the Department’s Nature Heritage Fund purchased Hadfields as a scenic reserve, taking up a golden opportunity to formally protect the block’s outstanding natural values and bring the most significant remaining tract of private land into the Abel Tasman National Park.

- Comment: There is also a possible hook in Darcy Hadfield but I'd have to expand the article for that. When he first became national champion, his siblings were highly amused. They grew up on Awaroa Inlet, lived with the tide, and rowing boats were the most normal form of transport for them. They all thought that Darcy was only as good a rower as any of the siblings! Happy to dig out the details; I've still got the book from the library.

- Schwede66, I'm not sure this meets the "interesting to an uninformed audience" criterion. Could we try for a better hook? ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 23:41, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, I only put those new articles forward where there is an interesting hook. I thought this was one. If you don't concur, then I'd have to go back to the source as discussed above and extract details about Darcy Hadfield's rowing career. I can hopefully get that done tomorrow. - I've had a look and Darcy Hadfield wasn't born on the Awapoto River; the family moved to the other side of the Awaroa Inlet before he was born. Hence, there isn't another hook in it. I'm happy to withdraw the nomination, AirshipJungleman29; it's no bother. Schwede66 09:21, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
