- ALT1: ... that Billy Wilder, an award-winning film director and screenwriter, arrived in Hollywood in 1934 unable to speak English? Yoninah (talk) 23:03, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: Thanks for the suggestion. I was thinking about something along those lines. He knew a few phrases but that's of course very different from being able to speak a language. The Los Angeles Times ref specifies "arrived in this country from Europe in 1934 with minimal knowledge of English" and the book ref is "He chose a British ship so he could work on his English, having learned little more than a few foul phrases..." if a reviewer needs verification. - ALT1a ... that award-winning film director and screenwriter Billy Wilder had a minimal knowledge of English when he arrived in Hollywood in 1934?
- This article is a five-fold expansion and is new enough and long enough. The hook facts are cited inline and I have added ALT1a as following the source more precisely, the article is neutral and I detected no copyright issues. A QPQ has been done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:14, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
